On November 29, BTS V dropped his much-awaited single Winter Ahead with Park Hyo-shin. Subsequently, the internet has gone into a frenzy, as fans across the globe find themselves speechless with BTS Taehyung, aka V's, vocals. Emphasizing a part in the song, one fan tweeted:
"KPOP IS NEVER GONNA SEE AN IDOL LIKE KIM TAEHYUNG EVER AGAIN."
Fans continued to praise BTS V and Park Hyo-sin's vocals and the music video.
"Winter Ahead is such a gorgeous & soothing song. My ears are blessed by the vocals of Tae & Park Hyo Shin. The MV, as expected, is classic Tae— aesthetically pleasing & filled with an intriguing storyline. Overall, it's truly beautiful & well-made," an X user reviewed.
"Winter Ahead is out, and the song is absolutely gorgeous! Tae and Hyo Shin's voices are stunning and blend together so seamlessly—it’s pure magic. Their vocals couldn’t have been more breathtaking! (...)," an ARMY wrote.
Fans also praised the jazz elements in the song. They noticed how the song reflected the idol's love for jazz. There has also been a use of saxophone, trumpet, and piano that creates a cozy atmosphere.
"winter ahead is so beautiful this part of the song is so pretty his vocals are so warm OUR JAZZ KING TAEHYUNG," another fan tweeted.
"I love it soo much. It's sooo good. THE SAX, their vocals, the harmony, his diction? Literally, everything about this song is so beautiful. Thank you so much Kim Taehyung for making me fall for jazz all over again," another ARMY stated.
Singer Park Hyo-shin, in an interview, stated that both Taehyung and he like jazz music, and amidst serious conversations, they thought of working on this project. As a new genre, they both had slight difficulties; however, it turned out to be a fun project.
The lyrics convey a lover's desire to be with their partner through all seasons and the hardships each season brings. Whether it is the burning summers, windy autumns, or the cold and wet winters, the lover reaffirms that together they will remain warm and protected in paradise.
In Winter Ahead MV, BTS V sculpts his lover to life, opening the door to fan theories
BTS V's Winter Ahead MV is around six minutes long, with the singer playing the role of a sculptor. The MV begins with its concluding scenes. BTS Taehyung starts working on a statue as the music pours in. He marks the statue with an 'X'. Later, he realizes that the statue has been brought to life as he notices the 'X'.
The MV is filled with aesthetic scenes reflecting the warmth of BTS V and Park Hyo-shin's jazzy vocals. A few romantic scenes showcase the Love Me Again's singer and the female actor dancing and playing games together. However, the story takes a sudden plot twist as the singer comes face-to-face with himself, bleeding.
This plot twist gave way to multiple fan theories trying to decipher the meaning of the MV. With such an interesting plot, many also dubbed it a movie.
"THESE SHOTS SUMS IT ALL UP!!! The woman was not real, and even the statue he was carving in the form of that woman changed (by himself) to become HIM. KIM TAEHYUNG...YOU DID IT AGAIN. Mind blown..Jaw dropped....thoughts are being thunk," a fan deciphered.
"He brings his sculptures to life. he realises this after he brought a beautiful statue to life (the girl), he tangles so much in the happiness of being with her that he forgot his other sculptures. and the blood on his face, is because the self sculpture he made got a Crack," another fan tweeted with a possible theory.
"So the winter ahead theory is he was a sculpture come to life in an empty palace and he imagined other sculptures come to life too because he felt alone, hence all the other people and party scenes, until his creator comes to destroy his existence too," an ARMY expressed.
BTS V's Winter Ahead was released on all streaming platforms on November 29, 2024. The idol has been preparing for its release for two years, which was also confirmed by the model/actor, Aida, who played the female character in the MV. She recently shared her experience of working with BTS V on the sets of Winter Ahead and felt grateful for this opportunity.
