K-pop group LE SSERAFIM addressed questions about their 2024 Coachella performance for the first time, with two members offering different responses. During the media showcase for their latest album, Crazy, on August 29, 2024, Joy News had the first opportunity to ask a question to the group.
They took the opportunity to ask them about the mixed reactions they received following their Coachella performance on April 13, 2024.
The performance had sparked some criticism regarding their dance and vocal qualities, making it an important topic for the group to address.
Chaewon and Yunjin of LE SSERAFIM talk about Coachella 2024
During the media showcase of August 29, Joy News posed the following question to the group Le SSERAFIM:
"Sorry about this being the first question, but I will have to talk about Coachella because it had mixed reactions. How do you feel about the mixed reactions? And a question for Eunchae: There was some controversy about some of the things you said. Because this is your first release since these issues, how did you use these issues as fuel for growth?"
As an answer to this, Chaewon went first and expressed her views. She reflected on their Coachella performance, acknowledging that there were mixed reactions, with some people not entirely satisfied with what they did.
However, she emphasized that, both as a team and individually, they used the experience as fuel for growth and learned a great deal from it. She mentioned that although LE SSERAFIM had performed on many stages since their debut, Coachella was their first time at such a large festival on such a big stage, and they might have been a little too excited, which impacted their performance.
Chaewon admitted that they needed to calm themselves more during the performance, and that was an area where they fell short. Looking ahead, she recognized that there were still many experiences they needed to go through and learn from, and she expressed confidence that they could always grow as artists. She considered it their "homework" to present a better version of the LE SSERAFIM everyone knows and assured that they would do their best to achieve that.
"There are a lot of things we have to experience going forward and learn a lot from those experiences. I'm sure that we can always grow as artists."
Member Yunjin then took over and, in response, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to answer the question and highlighted the significance of their Coachella experience. She mentioned that the experience motivated them to grow as a team and as artists, which they channeled into their efforts on their Crazy album.
Yunjin echoed Chaewon's sentiment that this album represented the first step toward showing a better version of themselves. She thanked the LE SSERAFIM fans for their patience and promised that they would return with even cooler, greater music, albums, and performances, fully dedicating themselves to the upcoming promotions.
Yunjin also discussed about the musical direction of their new album, noting that they explored new genres like EDM and house music for the first time, investing many hours into mastering these styles. Additionally, she mentioned that they delved into voguing for their performance, a first for them as well. She concluded by expressing their hope that fans would support them with a lot of love, as they had poured their hearts into every aspect of the album.
"We promise we are going to be back with a much cooler, greater music, album and performances. We're going to really pour our all into this promotion."
LE SSERAFIM's Coachella performance was met with backlash and member Sakura had become the first one to address it. She had posted a long message on Weverse in Japanese saying the group did their best despite being a young group.
LE SSERAFIM promise to come back stronger and work harder on themselves and have appealed to fans to support their newest album, Crazy.
