(G)I-DLE's leader Soyeon is all over social media for her additional lyrics to the song ‘Is this bad b****** number?’ creating a huge buzz among fans. On August 3, during (G)I-DLE’s concert in Seoul for their world tour i-DOL, Soyeon added a line that stated, “Do I have to care about what kind of f*ck you think?” and added,

“My contract ends in November. Who's stopping me?”.

2024 will mark the group's seventh year with the entertainment agency, and their contract is reported to expire soon. The additional lyric became a huge topic online as netizens speculated that the (G)I-DLE rapper might not renew her exclusive contract with Cube Entertainment.

On August 6, Cube Entertainment shared a statement on X, stating that the recent media reports were false. They also added they were aware of the changes in the lyrics and are amicably negotiating a contract renewal with the artist.

"The recent media reports regarding the stage performance of Soyeon's solo "Is this bad b****** number?" are not true, & we have not issued any official statement."

They added,

"The mentioned timing aligns with the end of the contract period & we are discussing the renewal of the contract amicably (positively)."

Netizens have expressed their disappointed towards the agency for not handling the situation properly as they believe it has harmed the leader of (G)I-DLE.

"we don’t care don’t EVER speak on her again."- a user commented.

Fans continued to express their opinions about the statement made by the agency.

"Cube either lied multiple times over the past few days or they're so incompetent that it took them FOUR days to release an official statement saying that others were speaking on their behalf. This is quite concerning, not matter how you look at it."- a user stated
"made no official statement" so it took a whole day and soyeon speaking up for an entire company to realise someone is going around making statements on your behalf?"- a user commented
"it was not official" then why on earth soyeon had to defend herself in her own instagram acc".- a fan said

(G)I-DLE's Soyeon opens up about recent song lyrics controversy on social media

Multiple Korean media outlets previously reported that Cube Entertainment responded to the rumors by stating that the line about the contract was merely a part of Soyeon's solo performance. Furthermore, they also reportedly stated that it was her sudden action, with no consultation with the agency beforehand.

This was followed by the rapper's statement on Instagram. On August 6, the Queencard singer denied the reported claims through her Instagram story and explained that they were prepared beforehand. She added that she has not had any negative feelings towards the agency since she started working with them 10 years ago.

She stated,

“I do not have negative feelings towards the company just from reading articles in the media because if the words are conveyed a bit differently, it can be different from the intention but I think it’s another opportunity that I feel the lack of response from the company. I will also try my best so that we can develop together.” translated by @2yeonzip on X

Meanwhile, the K-pop girl group (G)I-DLE is currently on their World Tour iDOL.
