On October 14, 2024, BIGBANG's G-Dragon registered a new song titled Power as a writer and performer on ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers). This has stirred the fandom awaiting the star's comeback for many years. Fans could not hold their excitement upon hearing the news and flooded the social media with anticipatory and supportive comments.
"Legend is coming back soon. GDragon x Teddy—A combination that never disappoints. Seated for Power. Power = 权 (in Chinese) = Kwon....Genius at work."
"He is really coming back," an X user reacted.
"Well, it seems like the king of kpop is truly coming back," a comment read.
Many fans noticed a significant meaning to the title, Power. In Chinese, power is translated as 'quán,' and the real name of BIGBANG's G-Dragon is Kwon Ji-yong. Quán also refers to his Chinese name, which is Quan Zhilong. Hence, the fans commended the artist's wordplay in defining his name. They expressed how his name embodies the theme of strength and ambition, connecting it to the concept of power.
"Power = 权 (in Chinese) = meaning (Quan). Quan zhilong is gdragon Chinese name, - so basically he uses wordplay to redefine his name,"
The Crooked singer is said to be working with Grammy-winning producers Tommy Brown and Theron 'Uptown AP' Thomas on his upcoming song Power, as these producers were mentioned on the writers' list. Some of their previous work includes Miley Cyrus's We Can't Stop, Beyoncé's Bow Down, Rihanna's Pour It Up, Ariana Grande's Positions and 7 Rings, and Justin Beiber's Holy.
Along with them, Hong-jun Park, better known as Teddy Park, and Franks Steven Robert were credited for the song.
"G-Dragon has worked with Grammy winning producers Tommy Brown and Theron "Uptown AP" Thomas on his upcoming album! G-Dragon upcoming single "Power"."
"Omggggg, I'm getting excited!! Hoping for a date soon enough so I can truly celebrate," a fan said.
"idk if this is real but i hope it is or i’ll pass out from disappointment," an X user expressed.
However, many fans held onto their excitement, awaiting an official announcement from BIGBANG's G-Dragon about his new music.
"I don't have the POWER to believe and celebrating myself yet, but still hoping someone will wake me up when all this becomes real," a fan stated.
"are we not clowns anymore? is g-dragon’s comeback and tour actually happening," another fan commented in disbelief.
"I will need to see the teasers to believe it. I don’t want to fall for it," a comment read.
