The tvN drama Misaeng has captured the attention of the entertainment industry and fans alike, with rumors of a second season in development after a decade-long hiatus.

According to Korean media outlet ETNEWS, the production team and cast of Misaeng have expressed their desire to create a second season. This emerged during the special CGV screening event, "Misaeng: It Wasn't Anything Else," held on the 20th. The event, which celebrated the show's legacy, saw director Kim Won-seok and key actors and creators discussing the potential for a continuation of the story.

As per the same news outlet, an industry insider shared,

“The main characters of ‘Misaeng’ have been in constant contact for the past 10 years. They confirmed the public’s continued interest and memories through the recent 10th anniversary event, so if the production company Studio Dragon’s will is firm, I expect that a clear outline will emerge soon.”

Originally aired in 2014, Misaeng is based on Yoon Tae-ho's webtoon of the same name. It follows Jang Geu-rae, a former baduk (Go) player, as he navigates the realities of corporate life.

The drama explores the struggles, triumphs, and interconnected lives of office workers, resonating deeply with audiences. Despite its lack of commercial elements, the drama became a cultural phenomenon and is credited with reshaping the landscape of Korean dramas.

The foundation for a follow-up was laid last year when the original webtoon author, Yoon Tae-ho, completed writing for the second season of the series. Additionally, the enduring partnership between director Kim Won-seok and screenwriter Jung Yoon-jung further solidifies the potential for a sequel. Meanwhile, fans who have been expecting a second season finally see some hope. One user said:

"omg pls let this be true this is like our family drama my whole family loves them so much!" said one fan.
"OMG MY CO-WORKERS REUNITING???" asked another fan.
"Now, this is what i call a 'good news,'" commented another fan.

Other fans were excited about the news of the potential sequel, with one predicting it would be "iconic."

"Wow, finally!!!! Pleaseeee make it happen," joined in another.
"it's OVER y'all the BEST KDRAMA is back!!!" said another fan.
"THIS IS GONNA BE ICONIC," responded another.

More about the potential Misaeng season 2

Studio Dragon, the production company behind Misaeng, holds the rights to the second season, having secured them during the production of the first installment. The studio reportedly recognized the enduring appeal of the drama at the recent event, which reaffirmed public interest and nostalgia for the series—a crucial factor in moving forward with production plans.

Following the screening event, it was reported that director Kim, writer Jung, original creator Yoon Tae-ho, and the main cast—including Lee Sung-min, Im Si-wan, Kang So-ra, Kang Ha-neul, Kim Dae-myung, and Byun Yo-han—gathered to discuss their shared enthusiasm for a new season.

ETNEWS reported that another industry insider said:

“I heard that the main characters of Misaeng shared a good atmosphere at a recent event. Although it’s not yet confirmed due to the different production environment and various other factors compared to back then, I’m looking forward to it.”

Veteran actors such as Kim Jong-soo, Son Jong-hak, Jung Hee-tae, Jeon Seok-ho, and Oh Min-seok were also in attendance.

An intriguing aspect of the potential sequel is the incredible growth of the cast over the past decade. Key actors, including Lee Sung-min, Im Si-wan, Kang So-ra, Kang Ha-neul, Kim Dae-myung, and Byun Yo-han, have become prominent figures in Korean entertainment.

Veteran performers like Lee Kyung-young, Kim Jong-soo, Son Jong-hak, Kim Hee-won, and Park Hae-joon, alongside newer stars such as Jeon Seok-ho and Choi Gwi-hwa, have also achieved significant acclaim, with some even starring in global hits like Squid Game 2. This star-studded lineup raises hopes for a full reunion of the original cast.

Stay tuned for further updates on Misaeng season 2.
