TVING released the latest K-drama, Love in The Big City, starring Nam Yoon-su, Jin Ho-eun, Kwon Hyuk, and more on October 21, 2024. The drama is based on Sang Young Park's bestselling novel of the same title that traces the journey of an HIV-positive gay man finding love in Seoul.

Nam Yoon-su plays the bright and sassy Go Young, who is gay and shares the same apartment with a straight woman, Choi Mi-ae (Lee Soo-kyung). Their unlikely friendship adds more warmth and wholesomeness to the series. Meanwhile, Go Young's three gay best friends—Eun-soo, Ji-tae, and Ho-min—emphasize the old friendship adage of "ride-or-die together."

Here is the primary cast list of the popular TVING K-drama Love in The Big City:

  • Nam Yoon-su: Go Young
  • Jin Ho-eun: Shim Gyu-ho (Go Young's true love)
  • Kwon Hyuk: Kim Nam-gyu (One of Go Young's love interests)

Love in The Big City: The bestselling novel gets released both as a film and a queer K-drama

Love in The Big City was released both as a movie and as a K-drama with the same title as the original novel by Sang Young Park. The movie version was released on October 3, 2024, starring Kim Go-eun (of Little Woman) and Noh Sang-hyun (of Pachinko). The drama version was released on October 21 with eight episodes.

The film focuses on an HIV-positive gay man, Heung-soo (Noh Sang-hyun), who shares an apartment with a straight woman, Jae-hee (Kim Go-eun). The Korean movie shows the unique and unlikely friendship between the two outcasts, Jae-hee and Heung-soo, as they live together and navigate love in the big city of Seoul.

Meanwhile, the K-drama adaptation tweaked the names of the lead characters and focused majorly on the male lead and his journey to finding love. In the drama, Nam Yoon-su plays Go-young (a gay man), who shares an apartment with Choi Mi-ae (Lee Soo-kyung) from their college days. However, Mi-ae finds a job after graduating and gets married to a senior colleague.

Go Young goes on to live in the same apartment for almost a decade. In the span of 10 years, he falls in love, gets his heart broken, attempts to end his life, and more. The drama doesn't focus majorly on his friendship with Mi-ae, unlike the movie. Instead, it's more about Go Young's journey to understanding his feelings, toxic traits, and sexuality.

The K-drama Love in The Big City is available to stream on the South Korean OTT platform TVING and on Viki.
