The Military Manpower Administration of South Korea is reportedly set to launch an investigation into BTS' Min Yoongi aka Suga regarding his ongoing DUI incident. On August 23, 2024, the South Korean media outlet Chosun Ilbo reported that an official from a civic group stated that the organization might internally investigate the idol's rumored attendance speculation.
"The Military Manpower Administration must quickly and thoroughly investigate the ‘Suga attendance suspicion incident’ to uncover the truth so that there is no controversy over preferential treatment for celebrities."
The inquiry will look into whether or not Yoongi was given special treatment during his ongoing enlistment. This was caused because of a civil petition that was filed against the BTS raper on August 12.
The netizen demanded an investigation to determine whether the idol was given any special treatment at his job before or after his DUI incident, including taking needless time off.
French weekly magazine Paris Match raises concerns about BTS' Suga allegedly targeted by the Korean media
On August 23, 2024, Newsis reported that the French weekly magazine Paris Match claimed that BTS' Min Yoongi was targeted by the Korean media.
In their article, titled "False reports and pressure... What's happening to BTS's Suga?", the French media outlet highlighted JTBC's false CCTV clip misreport against the idol, the rumor of BTS ARMYs starting the "Suga Challenge," and the deferment of special leave for social service workers due to the BTS idol.
The French outlet underscored how all these reports were confirmed to be false, "tarnishing" the reputation of the BTS rapper.
For the unversed, on August 11, several netizens, pretending to be BTS ARMYs (fans), trended "Suga Challenge" on X where they posted pictures of alcohol in their cars.
Later, The Tribune Express reported that the challenge was allegedly started by a BLACKPINK fan who pretended to be a BTS fan. Previously, JTBC released fake CCTV footage on August 7 that showed a person speeding on a scooter towards Namson—the opposite way from Yoongi's house in Hannam, Seoul. The news outlet claimed that the person in the blurry CCTV clip was Suga.
On August 15, Dong-A Ilbo released a real CCTV clip of the BTS rapper riding a foldable electric scooter for 500m near his house. The speed of the mobility device was reportedly below 30 km/hr and it had no engine.
The clip debunked JTBC's previous claims and the media outlet apologized to Yoongi on August 16 (KST) on national TV for airing unverified footage and creating "confusion."
Meanwhile, on August 23, 2024, Dispatch live-streamed a throng of reporters stationed outside the Yongsan Police Station, forming a Photo Line, hoping for BTS' Yoongi's arrival.
Previously, reports stated that the idol was summoned by the police for an investigation on August 22. However, HYBE confirmed on August 22 that the reports were inaccurate.
