According to the South Korean media outlet Joy News 24, former ADOR CEO, Min Hee-jin topped their economic survey titled 'Entertainment Power People of 2024'. She ranked No. 1 out of the 200 most influential personalities in South Korea between the tracking period of September 30 to October 8, 2024.
On November 6, 2024, to commemorate its 20th anniversary, Joy News 24 polled readers about the nation's biggest 'Power People' from dramas, variety programs, films, actors, and singers. Amid the ongoing public feud with HYBE, Min Hee-jin topped the survey as the first non-celeb personality, establishing her newfound fame.
For the unversed, Min Hee-jin was accused by HYBE of an alleged takeover of ADOR and its girl group, NewJeans. Through an internal audit, HYBE learned about her alleged conspiracy with Dunamu executives to crash HYBE's shares and seize the label. ADOR is a subsidiary label under HYBE Corporation, and the latter owns 80% of the label's shares. NewJeans is the only group under ADOR.
The former ADOR CEO surpassed Lovely Runner actor Byeon Woo-seok, singer Lim Young-woong, NewJeans, aespa, BLACKPINK's Jennie, and more, in the Joy News 24 survey.
Min Hee-jin's ongoing conflict with HYBE pushes her to new popularity in South Korea
Since April 2024, the feud has continued between both parties, resulting in Min Hee-jin getting fired as ADOR's CEO and replaced by Kim Joo-young in August 2024. Sports Chosun reported that she filed an injunction on September 13 to get reinstated as the label's CEO, which was turned down by ADOR's independent board of directors.
On October 17, Newsen reported that she was reappointed as internal director or inside director of ADOR for three years starting November 2, 2024. However, she continued with her court injunction, stating that her dismissal as the CEO was an alleged breach of contract. HYBE claimed that her being fired by the ADOR board was based on due process as her contract term for CEO had expired.
On October 29, Chosun Biz reported that during the last injunction hearing, the court rejected Min Hee-jin's plea, stating insufficient evidence and justifications. The court also added that the appointing procedure for ADOR's CEO was separate from that of Min Hee-jin's shareholder agreement tenure. Hence, the court legally blocked her path to permanently reclaiming the CEO position of ADOR.
Meanwhile, HYBE is embroiled in another controversy over its "Industry Trends Report," where it allegedly wrote demeaning comments against K-pop groups like BLACKPINK, Stray Kids, Vespa, IVE, and more. The internal report was exposed at the National Assembly Audit on October 24, 2024, inviting public backlash.
Billboard reported that HYBE CEO Lee Jae-sang issued an apology note on the company's official website, acknowledging the report and asserting that it was a compilation of fan comments from social media. Lee Jae-sang stated that he would reach out to respective agencies and K-pop groups and apologize to them.
