On December 9, 2024, Forbes released an article titled "Blackpink Star Rosé’s New Single Disappoints, But Big Things May Be On The Horizon." The publication analyzing the singer and her solo career sparked a heated debate online. The article compared the chart performance of her hit collaboration APT. with Bruno Mars to her second single, number one girl.

Despite APT.’s roaring success, number one girl fell short of expectations, narrowly missing the Billboard Hot 100 and debuting at No. 1 on the Bubbling Under chart. In contrast, APT. peaked at No. 17 on the Hot 100 and achieved top positions on the Digital Song Sales and Streaming Songs charts. The article read:

"One week before Rosie dropped, Rosé shared a second single from the project. “Number One Girl” was all set to follow in the hugely successful footsteps of “Apt.,” the first tune shared from the project. That Bruno Mars-featuring tune dominated charts all around the world, but the Blackpink star couldn’t follow one smash up with another."

While APT. continues dominating global charts and breaking records, Forbes stated that Rosé's latest single, Number One Girl, surprisingly failed to chart on key metrics like Digital Song Sales, Streaming Songs, or Radio Songs, a rare occurrence for releases by prominent K-pop group members. The publication stated:

"Rosé’s recent focus track didn’t even manage to hit any of the three rankings that help a tune reach the Hot 100. “Number One Girl” didn’t reach the Digital Song Sales, Streaming Songs, or Radio Songs charts."

It continued:

"That’s surprising, as almost every tune released by the members of some of the biggest groups in K-pop usually at least sells well enough to land on the first tally in that list."

Fans of the K-pop star expressed disappointment, arguing that the article allegedly undervalued her talent and growth as a solo artist.

"Forbes must be on the HYBE payroll," an X user added.
"Forbes, you can't go on hating on someone's hard work as a soloist just because the song didn't chart. Like, okay, Bruno's influence is HUGE, but that doesn't mean Rose had no role in it, please!" another X user commented.
"I don't trust whatever that hugh wrote. He's so biased," a fan alleged.

Many online users sided with the article, asserting that Bruno Mars’s global popularity reportedly played a significant role in the overwhelming success of APT. The collaboration’s chart-topping performance and achievements were credited, in part, to Mars’s massive international fanbase and influence in the music industry.

"SPEAK YOUR TRUTH FORBES," an X user added.
"Forbes wtf. anyway l detect no lies there, l kinda of feel sorry for her because that Collaboration with Burno gave people high expectations but omg," another netizen commented.
"What's so surprising? APTs were only successful because BRUNO WAS THERE. hello...this is obvious to everyone," a user wrote.

Another netizen mentioned:

"It is, tho. That's not shade, just simple fact."
