Melon Magazine recently published an interview with Coldplay’s frontman Chris Martin, where he addressed the possibility of another collaboration with BTS. As part of the feature, the magazine shared a video segment on October 4, 2024, titled "Ask Me Anything: Coldplay Edition," where Chris responded to a variety of questions.
One inquiry in particular was about the potential for another project with a Korean artist. In response, Chris remarked that most of his Korean artist friends, except BTS member Jin, are still serving in the military, making the idea of a new collaboration uncertain for the time being. He stated,
"I don't know. All of my Korean artist friends are still in the military except for #Jin. So we have to wait a bit."
Coldplay and BTS have a strong history of working together, having first collaborated in 2021 on the hit single My Universe. Since then, the mutual admiration between the two groups has only grown stronger, with Chris forming a particularly close bond with Jin.
More about Coldplay's collaboration with Jin and other BTS members
The friendship between music groups BTS and Coldplay is one of the most beloved connections in the industry. The K-pop group covered Coldplay’s iconic song Fix You during their MTV Unplugged performance, which received high praise from Coldplay.
Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19 restrictions, Coldplay’s lead singer Chris Martin made the trip to South Korea to record the track with BTS in person. The two groups later performed together for the first time at the 2021 American Music Awards (AMAs).
Chris Martin's relationship with Jin stands out as particularly special. During a conversation, the eldest of the K-pop group admired Martin’s guitar and in response, Martin gifted it to him without hesitation.
The guitar, which had been in Martin’s possession since 2012, was handed over with a heartfelt gesture, and Martin even signed it, addressing Jin as "Worldwide Handsome." The guitar has since become a cherished keepsake for Jin and is reportedly considered part of his family heirloom.
The connection between the two deepened when they teamed up for The Astronaut, Jin’s debut solo track, which Coldplay and Jin co-wrote. Just before his military enlistment in December 2022, the Epiphany singer joined Coldplay on stage in Buenos Aires, Argentina Coldplay's Music of the Spheres World Tour.
This live debut of the song was broadcast in over 70 countries, reaching more than 3,500 theatres worldwide, offering fans a memorable moment between the two artists.
While there hasn't been any official confirmation of a collaboration yet, fans are still eagerly anticipating another joint project, especially with Jin preparing for his solo debut album.
