"My mom cried for six months" - Stray Kids' Felix reveals the story behind his name during his recent appearance on Hong Seok Chun’s Jewel Box

On Tuesday, July 16, Stray Kids' Felix made a guest appearance at the South Korean variety show, Hong Seok Chun’s Jewel Box, released on YouTube. On the show, the idol took part in several activities with the two hosts, such as playing fun games, talking about his childhood, and more.

At one point, the idol was inquired about his name as it was different and was a mix of both Korean and English. While Korean names usually consist of only 3 syllables, Felix's full name, Lee Felix Yong-bok, consists of 6 syllables. This fact shocked and intrigued the two hosts.

The idol explained that his name was supposed to just be Lee Felix, but his grandfather insisted that Yong-bok should be added as well. He also shared that his mother was not very happy about it, and ended up crying for 6 months over the displeasure with her son's name. He said:

"The name Yong-bok was given to me by my grandfather... My mother originally had a name that came to mind. Yeah, she wanted to give me a trendy name, but my grandfather said he must give me this name. So, apparently, my mom cried for six months."

On the other hand, one of the two hosts, Ddol Ddol, rather complimented him on his name. He conveyed that since Stray Kids' Felix adorned luxurious and price-like features, his name Yong-bok counters it and brings a balance to him. Host Ddol Ddol said:

"He has the feeling of a prince and has a luxurious appearance, but his name is Yongbok, making it feel a bit countrified. It gives off the feeling that ‘Lee Yong-bok is also human’, right?"

Hong Seok Chun’s Jewel Box is a comedy talk show that premiered in November 2023. The show is currently piquing interest among netizens for its unique and never-before-seen format.

It's hosted by two self-proclaimed Top Gay celebrities who invite other male celebrities who fit the qualities and characteristics of a "gem".

Several factors such as height, voice, smile, facial features, etc., are taken into consideration before a celebrity is made to appear on the show. The host, Hong Seok-chan, shared that he himself invited Stray Kids' Felix to the show.

Also, the reason behind the delay in his appearance as they had to find a slot where he could make time for the show Jewel Box.

Throughout the episode, Stray Kids' Felix was showered with compliments for his physical features. The two hosts expressed that the idol's blond hair suited him very well and that they found his freckles really attractive. Host Hong Seok-chun said:

"By the way, when I look at you up close, you're prettier than a woman."

Stray Kids' Felix replied that he hadn't heard this from people before. He added that because he lived with an elder and a younger sister, and wasn't complimented much about his looks.

However, when asked about who he thinks is most good-looking among the 3 siblings, he said that since he takes after his mother the most, he considers himself to be the prettiest. He said:

"I guess it's because I have my mother's face. Because I look a lot like my mother, so."
