All about Nam Yoon-su's upcoming BL drama Love in the Big City

The highly anticipated 2024 Korean BL drama Love in the Big City is based on Park Sang-young's renowned novel. The series explores the intertwined lives and romantic relationships of young adults navigating the complexities of love in the city of Seoul. The storyline touches on themes of self-discovery, heartbreak, and growth, all against the backdrop of a bustling urban setting.

At the heart of the story is Go Yeong, a gay man portrayed by Nam Yoon-su, who faces personal and familial challenges, including his mother's denial of his sexuality. He eventually experiences a deep connection with Gyu Ho but is forced to let go of this meaningful relationship. Go Yeong’s emotional journey takes him from South Korea to Thailand, where he reflects on his past love and embarks on a path of self-discovery and growth.

In his interview with Allure Korea, Yoon-su spoke about the universality of love, emphasizing that Love in the Big City is "just another love story" and that the only difference is the gender of the individuals involved. He expressed hope that viewers would focus on the emotional essence of the relationships rather than the characters’ sexual orientations.

Despite the praise, Nam Yoon-su has also faced some backlash from conservative segments of Korean society. However, he remains confident in his role, stating,

"Whenever people ask me if it could be a disadvantage for me, I say no. I don't think about that at all and I don't intend to in the future."

The series, set to premiere on the OTT platform TVING on October 21, 2024, consists of eight episodes, each approximately an hour long. Alongside Nam Yoon-su, the drama features a cast including Lee Soo-kyung, Ji Ho-eun, Oh Hyun-kyung, Lee Se-hee, and Kwon Hyuk.

The show has been praised for its authentic approach, including scenes shot in actual gay bars in both Korea and Thailand, adding to the genuine portrayal of the characters' experiences. Fans are excited and impressed by the effort and sincerity behind this project, making it one of the most anticipated BL releases of the year.
