On September 6, 2024, NCT Yuta announced the tracklist of his first mini-album Depth, with a trailer video. The video revealed the album's mood and its release date. The announcement post also included a pre-order link. These details followed the singer's solo debut announcement on August 5, 2024.
Yuta would be the NCT's fifth member to release a solo album after Taeyong, Ten, Doyoung, and Jaehyun. He would also be the first Japanese artist under SM Entertainment to debut solo.
NCT Yuta's solo debut with Depth
NCT's official Japanese account on X shared the news of Yuta's upcoming solo debut with his first mini-album, Depth. The 30-second video contained snippets of a red-yellow screen with a spider web and a chandelier. It then transitioned to a black-and-white screen with the singer wearing a leather jacket and gloves.
The video also disclosed the tracklist and the release date of the album. The singer's first mini-album will contain seven tracks:
- LAST SONG
- Off The Mask
- Save You
- BAD EUPHORIA
- Prisoner
- Goodbye
- Butterfly
The album is scheduled to be released on November 13, 2024, with the title track Off The Mask. The singer's self-composed song Butterfly will also have an arranged version in the album.
The Japanese member's solo album will feature rock and ballad genres. It will be released in three versions: Internal, Superficial, and Existential.
The 28-year-old singer performed Butterfly for the first time during NCT127's concert Neo City: Seoul - The Link. It took place in Goacheok Sky Dome on December 17-19, 2021.
In behind-the-scenes content posted on NCT's official YouTube channel, Yuta revealed that he wrote and composed the song himself. He also created the choreography with the assistance of his choreographer teacher.
He revealed that the song explores the feelings and moments he has experienced while living in Korea and his aspiration to grow and change.
He said, referring to the lyrics of the song:
"In a way, it's been a while since I debuted as an artist... 'I want to fly up from where I am'."

The singer announced his solo debut showcase tour Hope, on August 5, 2024. Additionally, the singer announced the release of his first solo photo collection named 'Now,' which will be available on October 17, 2024.
