On October 10, YG Entertainment reportedly renewed their 2NE1 trademark hold following the success of the group’s recent ‘WELCOME BACK’ tour in Seoul (October 4 to October 6). As stated by the Sunday Newspaper, YG Entertainment applied for the renewal of the trademark hold in September this year.
The latest news of YG’s trademark renewal garnered much attention from 2NE1’s fans online. Therefore, admirers of the girl group swamped the internet with their speculation about their new album and upcoming music ventures. Expressing their view, one user on X wrote:
“I hate it here but does this mean something else is coming … new music perhaps”
The Internet seemed divided over the girl group’s contract renewal with YG Entertainment. While some anticipated a new album, others said that it was a win-win situation for both YG and 2NE1.
“noooooooooooooo i hope the girls get to release new music at least,”- a fan expressed.
“2NE1 is 2NE1 if they can't have it then i just hope YG ent will produce the song/ contents the girls want to put out to the world without hindrance plsssss DO NOT SEPARATE MY GIRLS ANYMORE,”- remarked an admirer.
“I can't totally blame YG for this coz I know the girls really love to make music together but -- the only difference now is that they are freer to make solo music if they want to. So @ygent_official better give us a 2NE1 album!”- wrote another fan.
Some fans seemed slightly upset about YG Entertainment holding the group’s trademark. Another fan said that YG wants to revive the girl group for good and it doesn’t seem to be a one-time event.
“I don't mind if YG renews it, as long as the members can use the name for solo/as group activities W/o any problem, no restrictions. Asking permission w/o delays,”- commented an admirer.
“The YG board has finally come too far for their senses and wants to revive the group for good not just simply a one time event,”- stated a fan.
“I wish they could own the 2NE1 trademark instead of YG. they kept them in the dungeon and disbanded them. I have neither forgiven nor forgotten. If they do sign a group contract with them, I hope they fight to have a contract that they deserve!”- remarked another X user.
“If you think about it, it's not as bad as you think it is. It's a win-win situation for both. I just hope they're working for something big now. A New Album might be in the works,”- another admirer wrote.
