On Monday, September 30, NewJeans' Hanni was selected by The National Assembly's Environment and Labor Committee for the upcoming month's audit on workplace harassment in the K-pop idol industry. The idol has been selected as a reference person for the workplace harassment issue.
The committee reportedly held a general meeting on September 30, where they voted to summon around 35 individuals for the audit. One among the voted individuals included NewJeans' Hanni.
The audit is scheduled to take place on October 25. The current CEO of ADOR, Kim Ju-young, is also expected to attend the audit as a witness. This decision soon followed NewJeans' livestream where they expressed their concerns and displeasure with the new management of ADOR.
The livestream, which was held through a new YouTube channel by the NewJeans members on September 11, revealed that the group was unhappy with the current CEO and structure of ADOR. Hanni, in particular, shared an experience that she faced at the hands of HYBE staff members.
Her confession hinted that the idol was mistreated and disregarded by both ADOR and HYBE staff members. Therefore, during the audit that's scheduled to take place on October 25, The National Assembly is reportedly planning to question NewJeans' on the bullying and harassment that takes place in the K-pop idol industry.
Additionally, Kim Ju-young is also expected to be interrogated on her response to Hanni's concerns regarding the bullying she faced from the fans of HYBE staff members. Regardless, Hanni is not obligated to attend the audit to testify.
However, the new CEO, Kim Ju-young, as a witness, is required to be present at the audit. If she fails to attend the audit without a valid explanation and reason for her absence, she might face penalties or will be compelled to attend, as per the Act on Testimony and Appraisal Before the National Assembly.
All you need to know about NewJeans' live stream and Hanni's confession about ADOR management
On September 11, the NewJeans members kickstarted a livestream through a new YouTube channel, and soon after the livestream, the channel was deleted. During the livestream, which they reportedly started without permission from ADOR, the members stated that they were not happy with the new CEO and the treatment they've been receiving from HYBE staff members.
As of August 27, Min Hee-jin was removed as ADOR's CEO, and the chief HR of HYBE, Kim Ju-young, was made her replacement. Additionally, ADOR's production and management were separated from each other, which created a distance between NewJeans and Min Hee-jin, who still stands as ADOR's internal director.
Therefore, NewJeans explained that the separation between the production and management departments wasn't working out for them. Additionally, they also called for the reinstatement of Min Hee-jin as ADOR's CEO, and this followed after Hanni explained a situation she faced at HYBE.
During the live, the K-pop idol explained that she was once on the fourth floor of the HYBE building, where all the artists often get their hair and makeup done. As she was waiting there, she saw a HYBE group's manager and a few other staff members near the manager. As they entered the building, they all greeted each other.
However, on their way out, when Hanni greeted the manager and their fellow staff members, the manager reportedly told the staff near them to ignore Hanni. Hanni expressed that the incident hurt her and that she was dumbfounded by it. When the idol took her concerns about this incident to the new CEO of ADOR, Kim Ju-young, she was reportedly ignored and labeled a liar.
Here's what she stated:
“When I saw that she was trying to move on from that matter I realized that the person who protected us is gone. I realized that we have no higher-ups that care about us anymore. I told her honestly but she made me feel like a liar.”
Therefore, NewJeans demanded that HYBE Labels bring back ADOR's CEO and management to its original state. They gave the label until September 30 to do the same. However, ADOR released a statement on September 25 rejecting NewJeans' requests.
