According to a report by Yonhap News on May 17, fifth-generation K-pop girl group NewJeans reportedly extended their support to Min Hee-jin in her ongoing feud with HYBE. The group members Minji, Hani, Danielle, Hyein, and Haerin allegedly submitted a petition to the court in support of the ADOR CEO.
The first hearing of Min Hee-jin’s filed provisional injunction against HYBE took place on May 17 at the Central District Court in Seoul. This injunction aims to prevent HYBE from exercising their voting rights.
Ahead of the trial, the Super Shy singers reportedly submitted a petition siding with the CEO. While the details of the alleged petition have not been disclosed, this action marks the first public support from the girl group amid the conflict.
As per the reports, the NewJeans members have expressed their solidarity with the CEO and have highlighted their strong bond shared with her. Additionally, it's reported that the parents of the NewJeans members (legal representatives) are also siding with Min Hee-jin in this matter.
NewJeans’ parents accused Chairman Bang Si-hyuk of mistreating the members of the group
On May 13, multiple South Korean media outlets reported that the parents of the NewJeans members had sent an email to Min Hee-jin, alleging mistreatment and exploitation of the singers by Bang PD. They raised allegations against the producer for not recognizing the girl group members whenever he met them in the HYBE building.
The email, containing several complaints and accusations against Bang PD, was sent on March 31, 2024, to Min Hee-jin. Subsequently, on April 3, 2024, the ADOR CEO forwarded the email to HYBE as well as BELIFT LAB. On April 15, Min Hee-jin initiated an internal complaint against HYBE, urging them to refrain from interfering in ADOR's management. On the same day, HYBE responded to the parents' email.
HYBE's response to Min Hee-jin's internal complaint on April 22 marked the beginning of their feud, as the conglomerate called for her resignation from the position of CEO. This demand came after the agency reportedly discovered evidence suggesting Min Hee-jin's attempts to take over the management rights of ADOR from HYBE.
Min Hee-jin accused producer Bang Si-hyuk and HYBE of album chart manipulation
Previously, Min Hee-jin revealed that HYBE Chairman Bang Si-hyuk allegedly suggested manipulating album sales of NewJeans to surpass the record set by SM Entertainment girl group aespa. Reportedly, he asked Min Hee-jin to increase the sales by 100K, sparking conflict between them as she refused to do so.
The ADOR CEO further accused HYBE of coming up with innovative ways to manipulate the album chart to get the pure unlawful status of the album sales.
Allegedly, HYBE would purchase albums in huge quantities in advance to increase sales for the first week and achieve a certain sales mark. Subsequently, they would return the surplus albums to retailers and use the excess stock during events like fan shows.
Min Hee-jin, Bang PD, and all the important figures in this conflict between HYBE and ADOR have put their stance through petitions. The results of the injunction will determine the proceedings of the shareholders' meeting, where HYBE intends to replace Min Hee-jin as ADOR’s CEO. The meeting is scheduled to be held on May 31.
