BTS’ Kim Taehyung’s congratulatory post for Nobel Prize-winning author Han Kang allegedly played a crucial role in boosting her books to bestseller status on several book-selling platforms. On October 10, Han Kang was announced as the 2024 Nobel Prize winner in Literature, becoming the first person to be honored with this award.
They wrote:
“For her intense poetic prose that confronts historical traumas and exposes the fragility of human life.”
The same day, the BTS vocalist took to Instagram to congratulate Han Kang and revealed that he had read one of her books, Human Acts (Korean version: The Boy Comes/There Comes a Boy). He wrote:
“Writer! I read “There comes a boy” whilst in the Army. Congratulations.”
According to E Daily, by 9 am KST on October 11, several of Han Kang's books started to trend on the Bestsellers lists, especially Human Acts, which ranked no. 1 on Aladdin, Yes24, and Kyobo bookstore websites in South Korea. Fans quickly took to X to praise Taehyung's influence. One fan on X wrote:
“Han Kang’s The Boy Is Coming, being no 1 now is a clear evidence of #V of BTS/Kim Taehyung popularity and being no 1 influencer in Asia.”
Several other fans echoed similar sentiments on the social media platform.

“Ok his impact needs to be studied and I'm not talking about fandoms. The GP without a doubt cares about what he says and does.” another user said.
Fans continued to share their thoughts about his social media influence on fans across the globe.
“His impact is insane, ofc kim taehyung your power is so big," another fan stated.
“Bestseller on the 3 major sellers after a Kim Taehyung shout out. Yes his impact is insane,” a fan said.

Following his congratulatory Instagram story, V was mentioned on major news broadcast channels in South Korea, Japan, and other global news platforms.
“It’s actually unheard of for even an active idol to be in the news once in a while but Taehyung being on the news for 3 consecutive days for 3 different matters is insane, especially while enlisted!!!!” a user commented.

Han Kang, the 53-year-old author, is the daughter of South Korean author Han Seung-won. She is best known for her books The Vegetarian, The White Book, We Do Not Part, and Greek Lessons. On October 10, BTS' Kim Taehyung shared the news of Han Kang winning the Nobel Prize in Literature and stated that he read one of her books, Human Acts, during his military service.
Human Acts follows the heart-wrenching story of Kang Dong-ho, a boy who lost his life during the Gwangju Uprising on May 18, 1980, in Gwangju, South Korea. The book speaks about the massacre of civilians by the military during the democratization uprising in Gwangju.
Meanwhile, Kim Taehyung is currently serving in the military as part of the military police unit under the 2nd Division Army Corps in Chuncheon. The BTS member is expected to be discharged in 2025.
