On August 28, 2024, official NCT accounts and members' Instagram accounts unfollowed former member Moon Taeil amidst s*xual crime case allegations. NCT, NCT 127, Taeyong, Haechan, Winwin, Johnny, Chenle, and Jungwoo unfollowed Moon Taeil on Instagram.

Those unversed, Moon Tae-il was an ex-member of the South Korean boy group NCT and its sub-units, including NCT127 and NCT U. Subsequently, the idol departed from the group on August 28, 2024, following s*xual offense allegations.

NCT, or Neo Culture Technolgy, is a South Korean K-pop group formed and managed by SM Entertainment. The group debuted in 2016 featuring, 25 members, including six sub-units such as NCT U, NCT 127, NCT Dream, WayV, NCT Wish, and NCT DoJaeJung.


SM Entertainment announced that Moon Taeil was cooperating with police regarding the s*xual allegations

On August 28, 2024, SM Entertainment released an official statement disclosing the information regarding Moon Taeil's criminal case related to s*x crimes. The agency revealed that they recently confirmed that the male artist was sued in a criminal case related to s*xual crime.

The agency further revealed that they had checked the facts and subsequently released the severity and seriousness of the matter. Subsequently, SM Entertainment decided that Moon Taeil couldn't continue the team activities. After discussing with the idol, the agency has decided that he would depart from the group NCT and discontinue the team activities.

SM Entertainment stated, as translated by X user @truzfilm:

"We have recently confirmed that Taeil has been sued in a criminal case related to a s*xual crime. While trying to ascertain the facts, we recognized the severity of the matter and decided that it would no longer be possible for him to continue team activities. After discussions with Taeil, we have decided on his departure from the Team."

The agency further revealed that Moon Taeil was completely cooperating with the police investigation and stated, as translated by X user @truzfilm:

"Taeil is currently cooperating fully with the police investigations, and we will provide additional statements as the investigation progresses."

Subsequently, the news circulated on social media and went viral among the K-pop community. Many were shocked by the sudden departure of the male artist from NCT. However, the fans wished the police investigation would bring justice and clarity. They wished the affected parties would find all the required support. The community mentioned that they would wait for future legal developments to know about the ongoing issue in detail.


The male artist officially debuted in April 2016 under the rotational unit NCT U with the release of the single Without You. Subsequently, he was added as a member of NCT 127 in July 2016 and dropped Extended Play NCT#127 on July 7, 2016. He has contributed to multiple tracks, including A Beautiful Human Being, Weird, The Moon, Purple, Love Right Back, Sound of Your Heart, Morning Dew, and others.
