On October 17, 2024, BLACKPINK's Lisa and Tyla shared a sweet moment during their latest Rolling Stone interview as they complimented each other. The K-pop idol confessed to the South African singer that she got to know about the latter through Water Challenge and subsequently started following her. She mentioned:
"I remember the first day I knew about you was from the Water Challenge. You, dancing onstage, pouring water, and I was like, "Oh, my God, who is she?" and I started to follow your stuff more and more."
For the unversed, Tyla and BLACKPINK's Lisa met in early July at L.A.'s Henson Recording Studios for a photo shoot. Rolling Stone published the latest interview with the title, "How Lisa and Tyla Got the Whole World Dancing." They sat down to discuss about their bond, fame, food, and the representation of their respective cultures.
BLACKPINK's Lisa confessed that she wanted to try Tyla's Water Challenge
Following Lisa's narration of how she got to know Tyla, the latter confessed that the Thai rapper was her favorite member of BLACKPINK. She stated that it "brought some edge to the group," which she felt was " so cool." Tyla added she liked Lisa's moves, dance, and dressing sense." The South African singer further said that she'd watch the Rockstar singer's videos all the time.
During the conversation, the BLACKPINK member mentioned that she loved Tyla's Water Challenge and wanted to try it. However, she said it was not possible for her. The South African singer replied, "Girl, you are a dancer!" The K-pop artist then mentioned that she did not know how to shake like the Safer singer. In response, Tyla stated that she would teach her how to shake.
The duo also talked about how their passion for dancing where Lisa mentioned she started to dance when she was four or five years old. She cited dancing as her "number-one favorite thing to do". She recalled that whenever people asked her to dance, she would say:
"OK, I can show you my dance."
Lisa described music as an art that came naturally to her, and it was not something she had to think about. In response, Tyla talked about how African Culture and dance were co-related and explained:
"It looks effortless, so that's great. African Culture and dance are one thing. Even all the viral African dance moves that come about are literally random people in South Africa. It just feels very spiritual and natural. It's in our blood, really. That dance is for a different genre."
Tyla elaborated:
"I just love the way it looks. So we did it on my song, which is amapiano and pop. It feels like social media opened that portal for us to share our culture, with the world, and I'm happy that I am able to do that on huge stages. It just worked."
Meanwhile, the South African singer asked Lisa if being famous in South Korea placed her in a difficult position. The Thai artist replied that there was no privacy. She explained that whenever she went out, people would want to take photos. However, she added that she's now gotten used to the present condition.
BLACKPINK member described the situation as difficult because sometimes when she would want to go out with a bare face and in her pajamas to have fun and eat, and at that time, people would place their phones in front of her face.
Subsequently, Tyla left a positive remark about the K-pop fandom and added:
"I love the videos, the dances, and the fan bases- how invested people are in K-pop. The music, the videos. It's like its own world. I find it so cool that in K-pop, you can bring people into a world that doesn't feel real. That's so cool. It's very inspiring for me as well because it made me want to create a Tyla world. A little Tiger world."
