They were popular for breaking preconceived notions, stereotypes, and stage presence.

The group was dedicated to genres including K-pop, hip-hop, R&B, dance-pop, and electropop. Initially, 2NE1 was introduced in 2009 following their appearance on the promotional single Lollipop alongside the South Korean boy band BIGBANG. They rose to recognition and popularity after releasing 2NE1 in 2009. The group also emerged as the first idol group to be honored with the MAMA Award for the Song of the Year for their track I Don't Care.

The group's discography includes an impressive list of records, such as two studio albums, eighteen singles, two extended plays, and promotional singles. They released two albums titled To Anyone and Cursh on September 9, 2010, and February 27, 2014, respectively, through YG Entertainment.
