Park Eun-bin and Sol Kyung-gu have been confirmed to be cast in the upcoming drama Hyper Knife alongside Yoon Chan-young and Park Byung-eun. On August 12, Disney+ announced the cast of this highly anticipated drama.
Hyper Knife, which will have eight episodes in total, is scheduled to be released on Disney+ in the first half of 2025. Production companies Blaad Studio and Dongpung Co., Ltd. are helming the production of the drama.
Hyper Knife narrates the story of the clash between neurosurgeon Deok-hee, the mentor, and his former mentee, Se-ok. After Se-ok returns, the two reunite, leading to tense situations and character developments for both of them.
Sol Kyung-gu and Park Eun-bin to play neurosurgeons in Hyper Knife
Hyper Knife is a medical thriller about two genius neurosurgeons and their fierce encounters upon their reunion. It promises to combine the essence of medical dramas and crime thrillers.
Sol Kyung-gu will play the role of Choi Deok-hee, a world-class neurosurgeon and mentor. Choi, however, has a dark side that is known to only a few. He has mixed feelings about his pupil Jeong Se-ok.
Park Eun-bin is set to play Jeong Se-ok; once a genius and promising neurosurgeon obsessed with the human brain, Se-ok now works as a shadow doctor in illicit hospitals.
At the age of 17, her brilliance got her into medical school. However, her medical license was revoked. She got kicked out by her respected mentor, Choi Deok-hee, and was permanently banished from the operation theatre after being accused of attempting to murder him.
Cast and crew details
This drama stars All of Us Are Dead (2022) actor Yoon Chan-young, who plays the role of Seo Young-joo. He acts as a guardian of Se-ok and calls himself her bodyguard, who will protect her like a shadow.
Kingdom (2024) star Park Byung-eun takes on the role of Han Hyeon-ho, an anesthesiologist who hates how the world cannot seem to see the brilliance of Jeong Se-ok. He is upset seeing Se-ok in her current abyss and helps her continue surgery.
Extraordinary Attorney Woo (2022) fame Park Eun-bin will play Se-ok. She was last seen in the television series Castaway Diva (2023). The actress also won the Grand Prize of the 59th Baeksang Award for playing the role of Woo Young-woo, an attorney with autism in Extraordinary Attorney Woo (2022).
According to her agency and Korean media, the actress is undergoing training to perfect the role of a genius neurosurgeon who has been shunned by the medical field. Earlier this year, on January 4, before her fan concert Eunbin Note: Diva, Eun-bin released her first musical album, Present, which peaked on the Cicle Album Chart at 72nd rank.
Sol Kyung-gu was last seen in the political drama television series The Whirlwind (2024), and Yoon Chan-Young was in the web series High School Return of a Gangster (2024). Park Byung-eun was last seen in the occult thriller television series The Bequeathed (2024).
Hyper Knife is written by Kim Sun-hee, whose previous works include the webtoon Bangjungsa and the OCN original series God’s Quiz: Reboot. Kim Jung-hyun, the director of drama series like Crazy Love (2022), and My Fellow Citizen (2019), Juggler (2017-18), as well as TV movies like After The Rain (2018), has taken charge as the director of Hyper Knife.
