Parole Examiner Lee, tvN’s Monday-Tuesday drama, premiered on November 18, 2024, at 8:50 pm KST. It offers a gripping legal story centered around parole hearings. Directed by Yoon Sang-ho and written by Park Chi-hyung, the series explores the complex challenges faced by a parole judge within a justice system rife with corruption and power struggles.
Go Soo leads the cast of Parole Examiner Lee as Lee Han-shin, a principled parole judge battling moral dilemmas and systemic corruption. Baek Ji-won portrays Choi Hwa-ran, a powerful private loan magnate, while Girls’ Generation’s Yuri plays Ahn Seo-yun, a sharp detective from the Violent Crime Investigation Unit. Rounding out the main cast is Lee Hak-joo as Ji Myung-seob, a privileged chaebol heir and the show’s main antagonist.
In episode 5 of Parole Examiner Lee, Lee comes across a case of suicide. Sensing something off, he goes on to dig deeper. Meanwhile, Chairman Ji's men find Jeong-hak.

Parole Examiner Lee episode 5 recap: Lee seeks Hwa-ran's help again
In episode 5 of Parole Examiner Lee, Hwa-ran visits Lee at the hospital after the attack. She wants him to sign a contract to take the building he had bought. He pretends to not know her but eventually gives up and tells her that he has yet to review it. He decides to visit Chairman Ji to show him that he is not intimidated.
Chairman Ji reveals that he is aware of the motive behind Lee becoming a parole examiner and mentions Cheon Su-beom. Despite Chairman Ji's warning, Lee is unfazed and promises to pay him back for what he has done.
While Seo-yun is on duty she gets informed about a person trying to attempt suicide nearby. When she reaches the location, she finds a man standing at a height claiming innocence. Despite multiple efforts, he jumps and has to be rushed to the hospital. On questioning his probation officer, she finds out that the person, Yang Bok-gyu had been released on parole on the condition of employment.
She speaks to the factory CEO next who believed that Bok-gyu had stolen one of his valuable watches and he has not been able to find it yet. Bok-gyu was found in his office the night before picking up a few coffee packets and hence, he believed that Bok-gyu was the one who had taken the watch. So, he has decided to send him back to prison.
Lee meets Chief Park at a restaurant in this episode of Parole Examiner Lee. As they watch the news about Bok-gyu, Chief Park recalls that Bok-gyu genuinely wanted to change his life for the better. Lee recalls advising Bok-gyu to change to be able to meet his son who had decided to cut ties with him.
Dong-hun visits Won-mi again during her shoot and pressurizes her to withdraw charges within the week. Meanwhile, Lee decides to go to the factory for an inspection. Lee speaks with the employees and sends Ji-soon to talk to CEO Yong Jin-sang. Ji-soon records the interview. Lee is close to getting information from a worker when the CEO's assistant interrupts.
While going through the recording, Lee catches a phrase used in gambling and deducts that CEO Wong gambles, explaining his lavish attire despite being the CEO of a small factory. Next, Lee visits Hwa-ran. Dodging her questions about the contract, he tells her that he has a better offer. He has found an easy target for her to extract money from. All she has to do is set up a gambling game.
Won-mi comes to Lee asking what to do about Dong-hun since she does not want to withdraw her charges, tarnishing her image. Lee suggests she take a vacation. Since she has an upcoming shoot in Italy, he suggests that she should go to Italy. When Dong-hun is informed that Won-mi is going to Italy, he rushes to the airport. Meanwhile, Lee takes her to a villa in the countryside called Italy.
In this episode of Parole Examiner Lee, Dong-hun is reprimanded by Chairman Ji. Eung-jun leaves to lure Jeong-hak into his trap. Ji-mok informs Seo-yun that Jeong-hak's phone has been switched on and they reach an empty house by tracking his location.
However, they were faced by Eung-jun's men. After a fight, Seo-yun finally finds Jeong-hak getting beaten by a man in a helmet. While Seo-yun fights him, Jeong-hak escapes but is hit on the head with a brick by Eung-jun.
Wong is called by a gambling house manager who tells him that he has found some easy targets. In reality, Hwa-ran is the one orchestrating this. Finding a good opportunity, Wong calls Parole Examiner Kim Nae-kyung and asks for his money. She was the one who had asked him to make space in his factory for a rich man's son who was being released on parole. She refuses to give him any money because of the situation blowing up.
Lee goes to the spot where the gambling is to take place. While the rest is fine, Lee is doubtful of the gamblers that Hwa-ran has arranged. Lee and Hwa-ran monitor the situation through the surveillance camera. After Wong catches one of the gamblers cheating and thrashes him, Lee decides to step up. Episode 5 of Parole Examiner Lee comes to an end as Lee takes on a disguise and goes himself to gamble with Wong.
The next episode of Parole Examiner Lee is scheduled to be released on December 3.
