On October 7, 2024, South Korean media outlet Star News reported that BTS' Park Jimin earned an early promotion and became a Special Warrior Elite Soldier. Earlier, on January 17, 2024, he completed the five-week basic military training and graduated at the top of his class. He also earned the division commander's award for being the best trainee and was deployed to the 5th Infantry Division.
A "Special Warrior Elite Soldier" is a title given to troops with exceptional physical and mental strength. To qualify, soldiers must run 3 km in under 12 minutes and 30 seconds, do 86+ sit-ups in 2 minutes, 72+ push-ups in 2 minutes, shoot with 90% accuracy, run 5 km with 15 kg gear, and march with 20 kg gear.
Previously, BTS' Jin was also designated as a Special Warrior after excelling in all these criteria during his enlistment. Meanwhile, fans were thrilled to learn about Jimin excelling in the military and cheered for him via social media. A fan highlighted how the BTS singer "paved his own way" and wrote,
"Another impressive achievement from different fields.. Park Jimin paved his own way to glorious," wrote a fan.
The BTS ARMY flooded X and lauded the singer-songwriter for "breaking stereotypes" and always "excelling wherever he goes."
"So proud of my baby! jimin always breaking stereotypes, always exceeding expectations, always excelling wherever he goes, and still remains sweet and humble thru it all," one fan wrote.
"So proud of Jimin, he's succeeding in silence, he works so hard. I love him," another fan wrote.
"Jimin is just living up to his own quote, "Silence is golden, don't waste time."...He got promoted in June and didn't give us a single clue. I'm loving how he always stays true to himself. Keep winning with that bright smile, Jimin! We are so proud of you! Congratulations," one other fan said.
A few of the fans made light of the matter and mentioned that due to his excellent performance, the South Korean military should reduce his enlistment tenure and let him return.
"I hope they will let Jimin an early completion of his service and shortened his training period because of an excellent military training performance." one fan remarked.

BTS' Jimin deployed to the prestigious Artillery FDC of the South Korean military
Earlier, in March 2024, Times Now reported that the BTS singer was deployed to the Artillery FDC, also known as the Field Artillery Fire Direction Center aka the "brain of the artillery." The Artillery FDC is considered a prestigious unit in the South Korean military.
For the unversed, to be designated one must possess an analytical mentality and be knowledgeable in both mathematics and physics. The military unit is known to carry out crucial missions including directing cannon fire and creating fire plans and cannon-related directives.
Furthermore, on January 22, 2024, reports surfaced that the WHO singer-songwriter went through the COLD range survival outdoor training in the military. COLD training is a simulation of survival in the most extreme winter combat scenario, when soldiers including the artillery, share sleeping tents outside without access to heating equipment.
The South Korean Army Special Warfare Command conducts cold-weather training to improve its ability to carry out special operations in snow-covered regions. Carrying 30kg military gear, fast-roping from a helicopter for covert invasion missions, navigating on snowy terrain, practicing attacking force battles, and evacuating casualties are some of the exercises included in this.
