Perfect Family Episode 8 Recap: How is Hyeon-min related to Sun-hui?

Perfect Family debuted on KBS2 on August 14, 2024, and has drawn viewers in with its thrilling and suspenseful storyline. The drama airs at 9:50 PM KST every Wednesday and Thursday and is available for streaming on Viki and Viu in certain regions.

Featuring Kim Byung-chul, Yoon Se-ah, and Park Ju-hyun, Perfect Family is directed by Isao Yukisada and adapted from the webtoon by Nyangpa and Joo Eun. The plot centers on Choi Jin-hyeok, his wife Ha Eun-ju, and their daughter Sun-hui, whose seemingly perfect lives unravel due to a murder case. Sun-hui’s friends, Gyeong-ho, Hyun-woo, and Su-yeon, are also drawn into the chaos.

In episode 8 of Perfect Family, Hyeon-min reveals himself to be Sun-hui's biological father after kidnapping her. Over the course of the episode, more secrets are unveiled.

Perfect Family Episode 8 Recap: Who lit Gyeong-ho's house on fire?

The eighth episode of Perfect Family starts with a flashback of Su-yeon's childhood. Part of a group of children being smuggled, Su-yeon had tried to escape from the traffickers and got followed by one of them. Refusing to cooperate, she went into a narrower path so the trafficker could not reach her. In his attempt to catch her, he falls off from a few floors above and dies.

As she spends time with Sun-hui, Gyeong-ho, and Hyun-woo, Su-yeon develops a liking towards Gyeong-ho and decides to forgive Sun-hui for ruining her life if she could be with Gyeong-ho.

In the present, finding no dead body inside the house, the police assume that Su-yeon has taken Sun-hui hostage. However, Jin-hyeok calls Hyeong-min and asks if he is behind the happenings. Hyeon-min asks for ransom and has Sun-hui hostage in a building.

Detective Lee does not survive and Detective Shin attends his funeral. Meanwhile, Jin-hyeok asks Hyeon-min for more time. Sun-hui asks if Su-yeon is alive but Hyeong-min does not respond to her question and instead asks her to cooperate to obtain money from Jin-hyeok. He promises to let Su-yeon live if she cooperates and tells her that her parents are living with a mask on.

Hyeon-min reveals to Sun-hui that he is her biological father. Sun-hui tells him that she already had similar assumptions. Hyeon-min tells her that after killing their own son, Jin-hyeok and Eun-ja pinned the blame on him and he was sent to prison. After being released, he looked for Sun-hui and found out that they had adopted her. According to him, that was their way of retaining control over him.

He had then decided to have Sun-hui back. As he followed her around, he also witnessed her going into Gyeong-ho's house after hearing some screaming and coming out with blood all over her. He tells her that he saw Eun-ja visit the house twice that day and after the second visit, the house was on fire.

He had decided to talk to the two of them but they threatened him. It was the same day when Su-yeon had visited to ask Sun-hui to take the blame for the murder on herself. Jin-hyeok had overheard Su-yeon and Sun-hui from outside the room. Wary that they had a witness, they asked Hyeon-min to get rid of her if he wanted to keep Sun-hui safe. Hyeon-min tells Sun-hui that he was forced to do what he did. Meanwhile, Jin-hyeok and Eun-ja tell Detective Shin about Hyeon-min.

At the end of episode 8 of Perfect Family, a flashback shows Su-yeon talking to one of her friends from the orphanage. They talk about their dreams. Su-yeon finds her dream when she sees Sun-hui one random day and finds out she has been living a happy life.
