BTS' SUGA's solo track Daechwita recently made headlines after the organizing committee for the Yeongdong World Traditional Music Expo stated that the song's music video played an important role in globalizing traditional Korean music. The BTS member’s single Daechwita came out in May 2020.

The committee of the Yeongdong World Traditional Music Expo stated:

"Considering the cases where BTS member SUGA's music video & instrumentals for 'Daechwita' became a global sensation and popularized the use of korea's traditional beats in kpop music and the famous historical drama 'Kingdom' which was translated into 27 different languages and released in 190 countries, gugak can also become the center of the Hallyu."

The committee further said:

"And we will try our best to use this as an opportunity to expand Nankei Gugak into world music."

BTS' SUGA fans were overjoyed with the idol’s latest recognition in the world of K-pop. Netizens praised Yoongi and shared admiration for his track. To express this, a user on X commented:

Many other mixed reactions for BTS’ SUGA’s recent recognition were seen online. While many were proud of the idol’s achievement, others emphasized his “real impact.”

Some said BTS' SUGA’s Daechwita is “unbeatable,” while others said that the song is a “cultural reset.”

Earlier, on October 26, 2024, SUGA made history when his Daechwita music video surpassed 15 million likes on YouTube. He accompanied BTS and PSY as the only K-pop male acts to have a YouTube music video with over 15 million likes. Currently, the MV of Yoongi's track has garnered over 464 million views on YouTube.

As of this writing, BTS' SUGA is performing his obligatory military service, following his enlistment in September 2023. The rapper is projected to be released in June this year.
