BTS star Kim Seok-jin attended the 2024 Paris Olympics torch relay as one of the Games' torchbearers on July 14, 2024 (ET). He marched across the Louvre Pyramid in Paris carrying the Olympic Flame and representing South Korea. The torch relay was live-streamed on the Paris 2024 website for membership holders and on the official YouTube channel of the Olympics.
On July 16, 2024, commentator and Olympics emcee (MC), Ksouchh, uploaded a reel of Jin from the torch relay. The French show host and the director of the series, Au Tour des Jeux, lauded the K-pop artist's presence at the 2024 Paris Olympics torch relay.
Thousands of fans started chanting Jin's name as he paraded through the Louvre Pyramid section, guarded by 30 French National Police and other Olympic community members. Ksouchh added that he has "rarely seen a hype like that" and wrote in his caption,
"Those vibes when Jin from @bts.bighitofficial participates to the Olympic Torch Relay surrounded by his fans in Paris on July 14…Rarely seen a hype like that. #btsarmy are you here?"
BTS Jin was guarded by 30 French National Police as he marched at the Louvre Pyramid with the Olympic Flame
The livestream of the 2024 Paris Olympics torch relay showcased the singer-songwriter escorted by a police entourage as he walked around the Louvre Pyramid section on July 14, 2024, at 8.30 PM local time (July 15 at 3.30 AM KST). The torch relay was held in Paris on Bastille Day (July 14).
The BTS member was selected as one of the 11,000 torchbearers for the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics torch relay. Before him, celebrities such as David Beckham, Muhammad Ali, Sylvester Stallone, Ellen DeGeneres, and more have held the title. Furthermore, the British Royal Family members like Prince William, Prince Kate, and Prince Harry have been the previous torchbearers as well.
Jin became the first and only Korean artist to receive this honor and represent South Korea at the Olympics. He was also announced as the first-ever global ambassador for FRED—a luxury brand that has partnered with the non-profit organization, Special Olympics, since 1966.
In other news, the singer-songwriter served a mandatory period of 18 months in the Republic of Korea Army from December 13, 2022 to June 12, 2024. After his military discharge, he confirmed working on his solo music and its early release in 2024. Furthermore, he will be a featured artist on the MBC Korean variety show, The Half-Star Hotel In Lost Island.
