On Thursday, December 19, Korean media Xports News reported that NewJeans members, namely Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein donated 100 million KRW in the name of their fandom ‘Bunnies’ for the charity efforts to Green Umbrella Children's Foundation.
The girl group's recent endeavor encouraged their admirers to contribute to the organization. The members articulated their motivations for the donation, stating:
“We made this donation in order to provide essential support for the healthy growth of children and adolescents in family care and help them become independent. We will continue to pay attention to them so that they can find and fulfill their dreams."
NewJeans’ followers were impressed with the group’s charitable move that motivated their supporters to join their efforts. Thus, the group’s fans flooded the internet with their praises for the girls. Expressing this sentiment, one user on X stated:
“THAT is an idol, honey! Creating positive change and prompting fans to do the same. Not just sitting on your platform and enjoying the fame and money like some other groups and idols. NewJeans is really out here changing the industry and soon, the world”
While some called the members “angels,” others seemed proud of them.
“NewJeans has constantly supported social causes, including donations to child welfare and disaster relief. Their acts of welfare inspire fans worldwide,” wrote a fan.
“Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein are such an angel. They are trying their best to be a role model for this planet. God bless Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein! Please keep making good music,” stated an admirer.
“They donate so often even during crisis times when they could need every dollar on their accounts rn…these girls are selfless and I‘m very proud of stanning such dignified young artists,” another fan said.
Some claimed they are “the best,” while another fan said that they are “generous spirited girls.” Many others called out those who referred to their efforts as a “PR stunt."
“They always donate...their profits of performance in universities and now this they also provided free meals tho and many more ...just can't get enough about praising NEWJEANS they are the best,” expressed another fan.
“For the crowd accusing them of “pulling off a PR” in the quotes, these girls have been donating and helping various social organizations ever since their DEBUT.. yall are disgusting for attacking these girls over being nothing but generous,” wrote a fan.
“Not only are the girls are humble but they are also very considerate and very generous spirited girls who are genuinely happy and invested in helping and making others life’s better in many ways whether it’s through music or charitable acts like this,” another fan commented.
NewJeans’ Bunnies made donations under the name of the group’s new Instagram account
According to Kyunghyang Shinmun, many fans decided to make donations under the designation “jeanzforfree,” the title of the girl group’s new social media account, instead of “NewJeans,” which has been registered with the band's label, ADOR.
On December 19, the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation, chaired by Hwang Young-gi, reported that the members of NewJeans—Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein—had submitted a donation under their fandom name, “Bunnies,” rather than the group name.
For those unaware, ‘Green Umbrella’ is a skilled child welfare organization that supports family caregivers, specifically children and adolescents responsible for the care of family members requiring assistance due to age, disability, or disease.
The fund would help 30 families by providing support for livelihood, housing, education, medical care, and self-reliance initiatives, encompassing career and employment opportunities.
In related news, the five-member K-pop girl group unilaterally announced the termination of their exclusive contracts with their HYBE-owned agency, ADOR, on November 28, 2024.
