On Monday, July 8, Billboard released an article titled The 20 Best K-Pop Albums of 2024 (So Far): Staff Picks, which crowned BTS RM's Right Place, Wrong Person, as the #1 K-pop album of 2024. The reputed music and entertainment magazine analyzed the slew of K-pop albums that were released this year up to July, declaring Namjoon's second solo studio album as the winner for several reasons.
According to Billboard, the idol's latest solo release was a raw attempt at self-expression. Released on May 24, the BTS frontman conveyed his emotions and tried to establish his identity in Right Place, Wrong Person. He also highlighted his experiences as an artist, BTS leader, and a simple human being in a candid manner.
Billboard praised RM's creative efforts, saying,
"In his latest solo effort, RM again examines his identity and emotions, with one of 2024’s most ambitious records across any genre. Right Place, Wrong Person is an intimate outlet for the BTS leader to experiment musically and candidly share his thoughts. Just like how the video for the main single 'LOST!' opens with a nametag declaring “INSIDE NAMJOON’S BRAIN”, RPRW shares the superstar’s larger questions."
"RM sounds liberated to express all aspects of himself" — Billboard on the BTS leader's new album
BTS RM's second studio album, Right Place, Wrong Person, consists of a total of eleven songs. Prior to the album release, the idol rolled out a pre-release single called Come Back To Me, which garnered a lot of attention from netizens for its interesting melody and intriguing cast.
The cast included several impressive actors from the entertainment industry, such as Kim Minha, Beef's Joseph Lee, Lee Sukh-yeong, Kim A-hyun, Choi Seung-yoon, Lee Sang-hee, Kang Gil-woo, and Gi So-you. Since the release of the studio album, it has bagged several accomplishments and recognitions.
The album's opening week sales placed the album on Billboard's Historic 200 Placement. It was not only a million-seller, but Right Place, Wrong Person was also recognized as one of the best albums released in the first half of 2024 by the Rolling Stones. Naturally, more honorary mentions were added to the album as Billboard released their recent list.
"Songs like the nearly six-and-a-half-minute pre-release track “Come back to me” or the blend of cultures, languages, sentiments, and sounds on “Domodachi” (featuring Little Simz) don’t feel crafted for mainstream mass appeal, but instead feel more like spaces for the rapper-singer to reflect and release himself from the hardships of life — and maybe even his own mind," Billboard said about BTS RM's album
Billboard continued,
"Without the immense pressure of leading the world’s biggest pop group, RM sounds liberated to express all aspects of himself: his anger, his hope, as well as his confusion, excitement, love, loneliness, mania and so much more."
Following the news, fans have been celebrating and cheering the idol's yet another achievement with his second solo studio album.
