On Thursday, August 1, Mnet released the teaser for its upcoming reality survival show, Road to Kingdom: Ace of Ace. The show will feature the K-pop boy groups 8TURN, CRAVITY, ONEUS, TEMPEST, and more. As the artists gather, they are pitted against each other in a series of competitions where several of their qualities like dance, vocals, and rap, are tested. In the end, one of the K-pop groups will take the trophy home.
Mnet previously released a reality survival show, Road to Kingdom, in 2020. In the 2020 edition, the K-pop boy groups, ONF, Golden Child, The Boyz, Verivery, Oneus, and TO1 participated. The Boyz eventually won the show.
With the show returning with a renewed season, fans are excited to see what Mnet and Road to Kingdom: Ace of Ace has in store for them. While the exact details of the show's release date are yet to be revealed, the tentative date lies in September 2024.
The winner of Road to Kingdom: Ace of Ace advances to Kingdom
Road to Kingdom is a reality survival show that brings together existing K-pop boy groups, ideally seven, and makes them compete for first place. Throughout the show, a total of two groups are eliminated, and the remaining five groups are ranked based on several criteria such as performances, final live votes, video viewpoints, and digital points for comeback singles.
Here are all the participants for the Road to Kingdom: Ace of Ace:
- THENEWSIX
- TheCrewOne
- 8TURN
- ONEUS
- YOUNITE
- CRAVITY
- TEMPEST
The winner of the show, as the name suggests, will advance to the next level of reality survival show, Kingdom, which is also produced by Mnet. For this year's show, the main host is SHINee's Taemin, who will be taking the viewers through the intricacies of each episode's events.
On the other hand, while Road to Kingdom was a prequel reality survival show for Kingdom, Mnet recently announced that the show will undergo some changes. Instead of being attached to the Kingdom, it will run as an independent program. Its efforts, therefore, are to highlight K-pop boy groups by giving them a stage to showcase their skill even after their debut.
Mnet also rolled out a female version of the reality TV series called Queendom. Its first season was aired in 2019 where the K-pop girl group Mamamoo ended up winning the trophy. Its following season was aired in 2022 which was won by Cosmic Girls, otherwise known as WJSN.
While a third season was in the talks, Mnet released a series called Queendom Puzzle instead of naming it Queendom 3. This was due to the several differences Queendom Puzzle had with Queendom. The major difference was Queendom had team competitions between K-pop girl groups while Queendom Puzzle only chose certain K-pop idols from the groups competing against each other.
