Romance in the House episodes 5-6: Recap

In Romance in the House episode 5, the drama dives deeper into the emotional complexities of its characters, especially focusing on Byun Moo-jin, Geum Ae-yeon, and Mi-rae.

The fifth episode, The Midlife Crisis Begins, opens with a flashback to Moo-jin and Ae-yeon’s wedding photoshoot. It appears that Ae-yeon was expecting a child, which prevented them from having a formal wedding ceremony. This sets the foundation for the ensuing emotional challenges.

Meanwhile, while agreeing to a dinner with her ex-husband, Ae-yeon confronts Moo-jin about their past, firmly expressing that their relationship is irreparable and urging him to move on. This leads to a poignant yet tense exchange, highlighting the unresolved feelings and the distance that has grown between them.

Meanwhile, Mi-rae begins to realize her feelings for Tae-pyeong, but she tries to create distance, unsure of what these emotions mean for her. As the fifth episode of Romance in the House progresses, Ae-yeon becomes increasingly suspicious of the relationship between Moo-jin and her neighbor Jeong-in, especially after discovering some unsettling details about Jeong-in's past in Thailand.

This suspicion, along with Moo-jin's secretive actions, leaves Ae-yeon feeling perplexed. She recalls how Jeong-in was pregnant when she first moved into the villa but never shared any details about her partner. As Ae-yeon connects the dots between the photo of Jeong-in with Moo-jin and her memories, she suspects a connection between the two and decides to confront her ex-husband.

Meanwhile, when Moo-jin presents the villa property transfer papers to Mi-rae as part of their agreement, she refuses to accept them. Despite her internal struggle and her strong desire for her father to leave, she ultimately asks him to stay, take responsibility for his past actions, and help raise her younger brother.

The episode ends with a mix of comedy and drama as Moo-jin, after a tense encounter with Ae-yeon, gets hit with an egg, symbolizing the ongoing chaos and unresolved issues within their lives.

Episode 6 of Romance in the House, titled I Want to Get Closer to You, opens with Ae-yeon frantically cleaning as she wrestles with the stress caused by Moo-jin's mysterious past. As the episode unfolds, Ae-yeon and Jeong-in confront each other, leading to the revelation that Moo-jin wasn't the one who abandoned a pregnant Jeong-in.

Meanwhile, Moo-jin impresses the local community by handling a wealthy young villa owner and showing off his physique and tattoos. The episode also explores the strained relationship between Tae-pyeong and his father, who refuses to accompany his father to official events.

Jeong-in confides in Ae-yeon, explaining that she and Moo-jin had previously lived in the same Thai neighborhood, where Moo-jin went by the name Khun Mooy, and Jeong-in used the alias Joy. She reveals that after being abandoned by the father of her child, she thought of becoming a stripper to support herself, and it was Moo-jin who gave her his entire fortune so she could return to Korea.

The only reason she kept a photo of her with Moo-jin was that it was the only image she had of her unborn child. Moo-jin, who had been reminded of Ae-yeon raising his children alone, felt compelled to help Jeong-in. Ae-yeon's persistent questions led Jeong-in to admit that Moo-jin was a shoe-seller in Thailand. However, she doesn't know how Moo-jin became wealthy enough to buy the villa.

Tae-pyeong, following Mi-rae's advice, attends his father's prayer meeting, dressed in a suit, where he overhears others gossiping about his troubled past. The friction between Tae-pyeong and his father escalates, leading to a heated argument. Later, a drunken Tae-pyeong is found by Mi-rae, who regrets helping him as he asks awkward questions before passing out on her shoulder.

Ae-yeon also breaks down in front of Mi-rae, confessing the difficulties she faced after Moo-jin left. The episode ends on a humorous note as Moo-jin, trying to help a drunk Ae-yeon, crosses paths with Mi-rae, who is assisting a similarly intoxicated Tae-pyeong outside a hotel.

The misunderstanding about staying at a hotel adds to the confusion, wrapping up the sixth episode of Romance in the House with a comedic twist.

Romance in the House is a 12-episode series airing twice weekly on Netflix and JTBC.
