Romance in the House episodes 9-10 recap: The truth about the villa is revealed
Episode 9 of Romance in the House, titled Back to the Mi-rae, opens with Mi-rae and Tae-pyeong entering a new phase of their relationship. The couple, still in the early stages of their romance, experiences excitement and nervousness.
However, when Mi-rae returns home, her mother, Ae-yeon, changes the locks and delivers a heartfelt message outside their apartment, encouraging Mi-rae to embrace her independence. Feeling frustrated, Mi-rae visits the taekwondo studio to let off steam, while Ae-yeon finds herself lonely in the house now that her children are moving out.
Ae-yeon, though composed in front of Mi-rae, later breaks down, comforted by her ex-husband, Moo-jin. He steps in, bringing food and offering company as the two reflect on living a simpler, worry-free life. Tae-pyeong, meanwhile, is offered a three-month internship by Mr. Nam, the CEO, who reassures him that he can walk away if it doesn't suit him.
As the episode of Romance in the House unfolds, darker tensions emerge. The daughter of the dead landlord uncovers Dragon Investment's involvement in the villa's sale and suspects foul play. She contacts Jae-geol, Moo-jin's financial advisor, warning him to stop avoiding her calls.
Mi-rae later confronts Moo-jin, asking about his intentions for her mother's future happiness. Although uncertain if he can always make her happy, Moo-jin reassures Mi-rae that their family won’t fall apart. She is initially upset about decisions made without her input but seems to be on the verge of accepting them.
Later, Ae-yeon has a candid conversation with Tae-pyeong, who expresses admiration for Mi-rae and convinces Ae-yeon that he genuinely has her best interests at heart. The former landlord’s daughter begins investigating further, eventually confronting Mi-rae. In a cryptic exchange, she warns Mi-rae that she’ll soon discover who she is, hinting at a connection with Moo-jin and his past.
Meanwhile, Ae-yeon seeks a part-time job at a salon, where she’s encouraged to consider modeling due to her striking appearance. Back at home, Mi-rae is overwhelmed by the mess and begins cleaning, realizing how difficult it is to manage everything. She stumbles upon a letter from Ae-yeon, offering advice and reminding Mi-rae that their home should be a sanctuary, not a battleground.
Mi-rae later visits her mother’s apartment, and they share a touching moment. Mi-rae finally appreciates how challenging Ae-yeon’s role as head of the household has been. This emotional conversation is one of the highlights of the ninth episode of Romance in the House.
Meanwhile, Moo-jin grows concerned that the woman calling them may have discovered everything. When he seeks advice, he’s told to find a solution on his own. The episode ends with Tae-pyeong starting his internship at Mr. Nam’s company, only to learn that Mi-rae will be his mentor, and Mr. Nam finally introduces him as his son.
In Episode 10 of Romance in the House, titled Tears are Saltier than Water, Tae-pyeong starts his internship at his father’s company. Despite his request to keep his identity as the CEO's son a secret and not to be pressured, the CEO introduces him as his son to the staff.
Ae-yeon, feeling nervous and excited, prepares for her first day as a model. Moo-jin shows up with a celebrity van, treating her like a star, which helps her relax before the shoot. During the commercial, Ae-yeon excels, and her speech, after being reassured by Moo-jin, touches everyone. The product she endorses sells out almost instantly after the ad airs.
Mi-rae also tries to confront Moo-jin about the woman who accused him of making her cry. Meanwhile, Tae-pyeong is found dressed in a chicken suit, handing out samples at a store. Mi-rae is tough on him despite his father's position as CEO, as told by the CEO himself, although she repays him by buying him dinner after work.
Later in the episode of Romance in the House, Moo-jin meets his sister, who accuses him of being involved in Dragon Properties, making him even more uneasy. During a neighborhood dinner, she storms in and publicly accuses him of scamming their father into selling the villa.
As she becomes violent, Mi-rae and Hyeon-jae step in. Ae-yeon, believing in Moo-jin’s innocence, says he can’t be a swindler, pointing out that he wouldn’t have returned if he were guilty. Mi-rae and Hyeon-jae also defend their father, bringing Moo-jin to tears.
In a dramatic turn, the financial advisor reveals the truth about the villa. Moo-jin wanted to buy the villa with his own money, but the landlord, under financial pressure, refused. The landlord, wanting to leave the property to his daughter, set the building on fire to collect insurance but tragically died in the process. This revelation clears Moo-jin’s name, as he was not involved in any scam.
Emotionally overwhelmed, Moo-jin is comforted by Ae-yeon, who sings a song from their past. Overcome with emotion, Moo-jin cries, and the two share a heartfelt kiss, concluding the tenth episode of Romance in the House.
Romance in the House is a 12-episode series airing twice a week on Netflix and JTBC.
