Ryu Jun-yeol and Shin Hyun-been officially confirmed to lead Netflix mystery thriller, Revelations

Netflix confirmed on June 20, 2024, that Ryu Jun-yeol and Shin Hyun-been have been cast as leads for the upcoming mystery thriller Revelations. They have started production with Hellbound's director, Yeon Sang-ho, and writer Choi Gyu-seok.

The story circles around a pastor who finds it to be his divine responsibility to punish the convict in a missing person case and a detective who is assigned to the case but is haunted by visions of her dead sister. Jun-yeol plays the role of the pastor, while Hyun-been plays the detective.

More about the crew of Revelations

As Netflix has confirmed in an X post, Ryu Jun-yeol and Shin Hyun-been have been cast for 'Revelations', the mystery thriller drama. The film will be an adaptation of Choi Gyu Seok’s webtoon of the same name released in 2022.

Director Yeon Sang-ho, who through movies like Train to Busan has touched upon the intricate nature of humans who live in a chaotic society, will bring a different perspective this time by playing around with the boundaries of religion and its interaction with humanity, faith, and belief and the contrast between good and evil in Revelations.

Mexican director Alfonso Cuarón has also joined the team as the Executive Producer. Cuarón has a long list of impressive achievements, including receiving the Golden Lion Award at the 75th Venice Film Festival for Roma, the Netflix movie.

Not only that, he was awarded the Best Director, Best Cinematography, and Best Foreign Language Film awards at the 91st American Academy Awards for the same. Speaking of Cuarón joining the team, Yeon Sang-ho said,

“Alfonso Cuaron was excited about the fact that he could discuss and create it with the director, and I had greater expectations for the result of our collaboration.”

What parts are Ryu Jun-yeol and Shin Hyun-been playing in Revelations?

Ryu Jun-yeol has appeared in Reply 1988, Taxi Driver, A Night Owl, and The 8 Show. In this show, he will play a pastor, Min-chan, who runs a church in a small city.

Min-chan receives a revelation from God about Yang Rae, who came to the church. Yang Rae is the culprit who kidnapped his son. Min Chan takes it upon himself and his divine duty to punish him. The character is intense as caught in a conflict of faith and punishment. He moves forward with only condemnation on his mind.

Shin Hyun-been has been a part of dramas like Hospital Playlist, Reflection of You, Reborn Rich, and most recently, Tell Me That You Love Me. She will play the part of a detective, Yeon-hee who is assigned to a missing person case and follows Yang Rae and Min-chan, finding them suspicious.

While being haunted by the visions of her sister who dies in a painful accident, she continues to do her duty and pursue the truth of the case. This makes her character more complex as she has her own battles to fight while conducting an investigation.

With the two leads working together for the first time, the outcome is bound to be a new combination of skills each possesses. Moreover, with such a writer-director duo and a compelling storyline, higher expectations are set for Revelations.
