Netflix's new reality competition series called Culinary Class Wars (Korean title: 흑백요리사: 요리 계급 전쟁) aired its pilot episode on September 17, 2024. The show has garnered much attention from viewers not only in South Korea but also worldwide, with the unique theme of a face-off between professional culinary masters and skilled contestants with a passion for cooking.

Having quickly gained the attention of food enthusiasts globally, the show resulted in a crossover between culinary entertainment and K-pop. Idols DK of SEVENTEEN, Mingi of ATEEZ, and Beomgyu of Tomorrow X Together, aka TXT, have recently expressed their admiration for the show by talking about it to their fans.

On Wednesday, September 25, SEVENTEEN's Dokyeom or DK posted a picture of a bowl of food and revealed through the caption that he wants to go on Netflix's Culinary Class Wars. He recommended the show to fans, saying,

"i want to go on culinary class wars too. (laughs) no but it’s so fun. i highly recommend the cooking survival [show]!"

In the same vein, on Friday, September 27, ATEEZ's Mingi and TXT's Beomgyu also voiced their love for the show while conversing with their fans, diving deep into talks of food.

How Mingi of ATEEZ and Beomgyu of TXT revealed their interest in Netflix's latest Culinary Class Wars

On September 27, Mingi of ATEEZ also discussed the hit cooking show during a chat session with fans on a popular artist-fan community platform. While talking about what he would have for dinner, he humorously brought up the Netflix show, saying he would like to eat something made by Culinary Class Wars.

"I'm about to have dinner now!! I’m not sure what yet ㅎㅎ. Whatever I'm craving today. Spicy chili gimbap. Or something made by “Culinary Class Wars” (Netflix series). ㅋㅋㅋㅋ"

He even shared a meme from the show, adding,

"It's me... Song Mingi. As expected, dinner is scary... It’s a meme. MZs gets it quickly. That's how it is. It's me, perilla oil ㅎㅎ (meme from the show). ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ"

The idol further mentioned that he would like to learn how to make the traditional Italian dish Aglio e Olio, among other food-related discussions.

Beomgyu of TXT also praised the production during a Weverse DM conversation. At first, he asked if the fans watched Netflix's Culinary Class Wars, stating that it has been quite popular lately. Adding he watched up to episode 2, he further stated that if he were the judge, he would call for a two-hour break after judging about four people. He said,

"As I was watching, I really felt bad for the judges... If it were me, I'd probably judge about 4 people, then call for a break, take a 2-hour break, and then judge again. But how do they manage to judge 20 people at once?" That's what I was thinking..."

He further explained that even if a judge takes one bite of each dish, they still have to do that 20 times, eating as many different dishes. He hilariously added that if he were to have two dumplings like Chef Baek Jong-won, he would already feel full.

"I think it’s really amazing....No, but you have to eat 20 different things even if it's just one bite each. That's 20 times you have to use your chopsticks...!!!!!!!! "While watching Chef Baek Jongwon eat two dumplings, I thought, 'Wow... If I eat two, I’ll full...' But they keep giving them two..."

He stated that he was constantly amazed by the judges of the Netflix show, who, despite being full, had to evaluate the dishes fairly. He added that even though he cannot cook, he will buy delicious meals to compensate.

The show Culinary Class Wars on Netflix has released seven episodes so far. The concept introduces 100 contenders, with 80 underdog "Black Spoon" cooks taking on 20 elite "White Spoon" star chefs, battling it out to become the best in Korea. Episodes 8, 9, and 10 will air on Tuesday, October 1.

The tough competition between the two parties has not only kept audiences hooked but has also boosted the restaurant industry in South Korea. The participants' restaurants have been busy with orders and reservation requests, regardless of who advanced or was eliminated in the show.
