Rapper Lee Young-ji has found herself in the spotlight after covering Megan Thee Stallion's rap verses during TWICE's performance of Strategy. The collaboration took place on The Seasons: Rainbow of Lee Young-ji, where the rapper joined the group to fill in for Megan, who was unable to participate in the ongoing promotions.
TWICE recently released their 14th mini-album Strategy, featuring the title track in collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion. Although the rapper participated in the song and its music video, she could not be a part of the live promotions.
Therefore, TWICE has occasionally performed without the rap section or, like this time, with Lee Young-ji to cover Megan's parts.
During the episode, Young-ji, a known friend of the TWICE members, stepped in to perform Megan's lines. While many praised her energy and delivery, calling her a natural fit for the track, others suggested that one of TWICE's rappers could have taken on the role instead.
"youngji…..don’t ever touch this song again and i’m being so f*ckin serious," an X user wrote.
"Like can she let Meg do it first???" another netizen remarked.
"i beg kpop artists who collab with western artists STOP MAKING YOUNGJI DO THEIR DAMN PART," a user commented on X.
Fans, however, were quick to defend the rapper, pointing out her close connection with the group and highlighting her previous work in similar situations. Many emphasized that her performance brought a fresh twist to the track and expressed appreciation for her contribution. One user wrote:
"she fits the song soooo well! i hope they can feature her on future projects *cough* chaelo *cough*."
Others joined in to praise her versatility and noted that her involvement added a unique flavor to the stage.
"youngji can collab with everybody and still ate it like usual," a fan commented.
"Damn this is just Youngji's year! Everything she touches turns into gold," another netizen wrote.
"Lee Youngji always supporting idols, she must be friends with so many of them, I love this diva's energy," an X user expressed.
"IM SCREAMING YOUNGJI IS VERY COOL FOR THIS," a fan added.
