Apple TV+'s Korean series, Pachinko season 2, aired its final episode on October 11, 2024, which included an original soundtrack (OST), Viva La Vida, performed by BLACKPINK's Rosé. The OST was played at the climax of the show's final episode, where Sunja's (Kim Min-ah) and Koh Hansu's (Lee Min-ho) son, Noa, leave everything behind and disappear.
In July 2024, Teen Vogue reported that the BLACKPINK vocalist contributed her voice to the popular show's soundtracks. For the unversed, Viva La Vida is an original track by the British boy band Coldplay, released in 2008. However, its new reprised version was performed by BLACKPINK's Rosé in Pachinko season 2 episode 8.
The latest reprised version lyrics were slightly re-ordered and recorded in a quasi-murmured manner, unlike the original track by Coldplay. According to Teen Vogue, previously, she wrote on her Instagram broadcast channel:
“I feel honored to be part of the trailer and finale of the second season of this award-winning and globally acclaimed drama series, Pachinko, on Apple TV. I hope you all look forward to season 2 and enjoy my cover of 'Viva La Vida.'”
Meanwhile, her fans were both surprised and pleased to listen to the song play in the episode. A fan noted the crescendo in her voice while delivering each line with panache. The fan wrote,
"The sarcasm in "long live the king" and the dramatic pause in "lonely string". She is really a storyteller."
Admirers took to X (formerly Twitter), praising her voice and expressing heightened anticipation for her upcoming debut solo album.
"Rosé’s voice is so beautiful and haunting. This was such a perfect choice for the Pachinko finale," a fan wrote.
"I DONT THINK WE ARE SO READY FOR HER ALBUM 'ROSIE' BUT I'M STILL EXCITED TO HEAR HER OWN SONGS. SHE SLAYED THE OST THAT MAKES YOU TO WANT FOR MORE," another fan said.
"They need to put this on streaming ASAP," another fan added.
Some people expressed unease over Rosé's Viva La Vida being unavailable on music streaming services. Notably, the track has not yet been made available on any platform.
"Rose's voice gives me literal chills, she sounds so amazing, I effing love her so much," one fan commented.
"The way she can literally touch my heart with her beautiful voice. I need the full version on spotify NOW," one other fan wrote.
"Never thought I could fall in love with someone's voice, let alone with someone's breathing but I am and I do I can't with all this emotions," a fan added.
BLACKPINK's Rosé shares a demo of her upcoming song Vampirehollie on Instagram
In February 2024, Rosé surprised her fans by dropping a snippet of her upcoming song, Vampirehollie, on her Instagram broadcast channel. Later, on September 27, 2024, she announced that she signed with the American record label Atlantic Records for her solo music.
Additionally, BLACKPINK's Rosé opened a second Instagram account and updated fans of her forthcoming releases.
In her post caption, she wrote,
"I am so so excited to announce to you my signing with @atlanticrecords !!!!!! I know you’ve all waited sooo long for this moment, but I hope you’re READY for what’s in store for the next few months!! I CANNOTTT wait for you all to hear everything!! So hang on tight!! miss you all dearly."
Rosé debuted as a BLACKPINK member under YG Entertainment in 2016. All four members terminated their solo contracts with the agency and headed out to set up their own individual companies.
However, unlike Jennie, Lisa, and Jisoo, the On the Ground singer did not establish her own company. Instead, she signed with The Black Label—a YG Entertainment subsidiary, in June 2024.
In other news, Rosé announced that the release of her full-length debut solo album is scheduled for December 6, 2024.
