BLACKPINK's Lisa attended the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) on September 12. She performed on her latest singles Rockstar and New Woman and also won the Best K-Pop MTV Video Music Awards for Rockstar. However, several netizens were disappointed with her lipsyncing throughout her performance.
Many people claimed that she lip-synced her whole performance and did not sing a word live at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards. One netizen remarked on X,
"This Lisa performance is the worst lip syncing I’ve ever seen… she’s not even trying."

Some even criticized her performance, saying it was uninteresting and that her backup vocals were so loud that she wasn't even lip-syncing to the lyrics.
"This Lisa performance is so BORING. If you're gonna lip sync then lip sync with ATTITUDE! Even her dance moves were too "soft" (no energy in itself whatsoever) , this is EXACTLY what I mean when I say y'all hype k pop stars too much," one X user wrote.

Several netizens who watched the VMA show stated that they had never "heard of" the K-pop star and were surprised to see her not sing or rap live.

"Is anyone teaching these new kids how to actually lip sync? This Lisa chick looked a solid second off behind the live track lol," another X user said.

Lisa, who is the CEO of LLOUD, arrived on the red carpet dressed in a bespoke Mugler nude mesh-and-satin corset top gown from the Spring/Summer 2025 collection. The gown was created by Casey Cadwallader and accentuated her body with its precise structure and slim built-in gloves.
During her performance at the 2024 MTV VMA, she changed into a red and black leather cutout mini-skirt and a corset top. Later, the BLACKPINK rapper changed her appearance entirely to accept her prize. She wore a black tulle translucent dress by Louis Vuitton layered over a sequinned bodysuit, featuring an off-the-shoulder neckline.
The K-pop star wrapped her night with a fourth attire for the after party where she was seen wearing a little black dress.
