On August 5, 2024, The Nation reported that BLACKPINK's Lisa is scheduled to meet Thailand's Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin and Pheu Thai Party leader Paetongtarn Shinawatra to discuss soft power promotion. According to a source close to the prime minister, the government intends to enhance its film promotion initiatives in Thailand.
These initiatives include raising the maximum rebate amount from 75 million baht (over $2.1 million) to 150 million baht (over $4.25 million) per title. It also intends to increase the cash rebate from 15-20 to 20-30 percent for investments totaling at least 100 million baht (around $2.83 million) in Thailand.
However, The Nation reported that the Thai rapper is rearranging her schedule and agenda to fix a date for the meeting with Thailand's Prime Minister in the following months.
For the unversed, soft power promotion in politics refers to the capacity to co-opt and entails influencing other people's choices by enhancing one's country's attractiveness and cultural appeal.
