All you need to know about NewJeans' recent departure from their agency, ADOR
On November 28, 2024, NewJeans members held an emergency press conference to announce their exclusive contract termination with ADOR. A few days before the press conference, NewJeans released a 14-day ultimatum to ADOR, outlining a few demands and required actions from the agency.
They warned that a failure to meet the same would lead to the group's departure from the agency.
The press conference, which was held on the last day of the ultimatum notice, conveyed that the members had decided to depart the agency due to ADOR's failure. They also expressed that they don't see the agency as a space or an entity that would allow the K-pop girl group members to grow as artists and be protected.
NewJeans member Minji also explained that right before the press conference, ADOR sent the members an email explaining their failure to meet the demands. Regardless, the members were fixated on their decision. Here's what the Minji stated:
"They sent their response an hour before and we confirmed it. The contents of the email were serious. The email stated that 14 days was not enough time, that they regretted there was no communication with ADOR, and that there were matters they couldn't address because they weren't ADOR's doing."
She continued:
"However, they took no substantial action and we had made these demands back in September as well. The email was full of lies and excuses and was merely a stalling tactic. Therefore, we are terminating our exclusive contract as of midnight on the 29th."
Following the emergency press conference, ADOR released a statement expressing their regret over the members' decision to depart the agency. It further requested that the group reconsider the continuation of their relationship with ADOR.
Therefore, while fans and netizens were worried about NewJeans' activities in the industry without an agency, their recent schedule in Japan at the Warner Bros' studio also lifted their hopes.
