On Tuesday, September 17, a new UK study surfaced online stating that BLACKPINK has become the most streamed AI-cover artist across the globe. BLACKPINK, Justin Bieber, and Kanye West are the most streamed AI-cover artists, according to the UK's Music Magpie report.
The K-pop girl band topped the list with a large margin of over 17.3 million views. Reportedly, a loss of around $414K has been incurred with the loss of these views.
The latest study caught the attention of the girl group's fans and other X users. Therefore, they swamped the internet with their views on the report. One of them remarked:
“This is embarassing tbh, it shows how much we are starving, on the other hand, it shows that blackpink voices make every song better”
Many other mixed responses from the girl group admirers were recorded online. Even though one fan acknowledged the impact of the K-pop group on most streams, the others were thirsty for new tracks from the girls.
“blinks are thirsty of Blackpink comeback”- wrote another fan.
“blinks being thirsty for blackpink wanting to hear them n matter what”- stated an X user.
“The pinks being the most streams show impact”- commented a fan.
While some said that they’re tired of waiting for the girl group’s new songs, the other said that these AI-generated songs are fake.
“fans trying to survive this @BLACKPINK drought”- Another fan said.
“Do Something"- A fan mentioned.
“You can't lose revenue on music you didn't make.. There's literally nothing to be made... The songs are fake.”- Another X user remarked.
Growing use of AI is stealing human creativity and revenues from K-pop groups like BLACKPINK, Stray Kids, Enhypen, and more
Using data on the number of streams, number of videos, and popularity of certain AI artists, the UK publication Music Magpie ran a thorough analysis of 1,500 AI-generated remixes and songs to gauge the extent of the threat and profit loss.
Numerous K-pop stars were on the long list of "most streamed AI" musicians prepared by the publication. With more than 17 million views, BLACKPINK topped the list, with Jimin, Jennie, Stray Kids, TWICE, NCT DREAM, and ENHYPEN filling in the top twenty.
Some of the most well-known names in the industry are feeling the effects, according to the research, as AI-generated songs rack up millions of streams and steal revenue from their original producers.
Both the easy accessibility of AI and the proliferation of AI-generated tracks and covers have caused concern in the music industry and brought about substantial changes. The boundaries between artificial intelligence (AI) and real creativity are becoming more and more blurred, making it harder for listeners to tell the difference between actual musicians' work and machine learning programs.
Some are beginning to question the value of human creation, the veracity of music, and the consequences for musicians' finances as a result of increasing technological dominance. Currently, there are already over 1,630,000 AI covers on YouTube alone.
The report shows that AI is becoming more proficient at imitating human creativity. Many are worried about the impact on revenue due to the proliferation of AI-generated recordings that imitate popular styles and vocals.
