On Wednesday, August 28, the South Korean media outlet JoongAng Daily released further updates on NCT's Taeil and his recent sexual crime allegations. Though the idol has made the decision to depart the K-pop boy group, NCT, the South Korean media outlet, JoongAng Daily released a report that stated that SM Entertainment is yet to terminate their exclusive contract with him.
SM Entertainment, earlier on August 28, released a statement announcing that the idol was sued for sexual crime, and due to the alleged seriousness of the events, he has departed NCT and will no longer participate in the group's activities. However, the nature of the alleged crime committed by Taeil is yet to be revealed or confirmed.

On August 28, SM Entertainment released a statement announcing that Taeil is being sued for sexual crime. As the agency gained more facts and information regarding this news, they decided that the idol would no longer be a part of NCT and its sub-unit, NCT 127.
This decision was also made in consultation with Taeil who agreed to depart the K-pop boy group. On the other hand, the statement also conveyed that the idol will be complying with police investigations regarding the same. Regardless of the immediate departure of the idol from NCT, it was reported that the idol still stands as an artist under SM Entertainment.
Whether or not a contract termination between the two parties would fall out is yet to be known. Here's the statement that SM Entertainment released regarding this news:
"This is SM Entertainment. We have recently learned that Taeil has been charged with a criminal case related to sexual offenses. As we gathered the facts, we realized the seriousness of the case and decided that he could no longer continue to be a part of the team, and in consultation with the idol, he has decided to leave the team."
The statement continued,
"He is cooperating fully with the police investigation and we will provide further comment as the investigation progresses. We deeply apologize for any offense our artist may have caused."
Moon Tae-il, professionally known as Taeil, is a K-pop idol and South Korean singer-songwriter housed under SM Entertainment. He stands as the main vocalist of NCT 127 and made his debut in the K-pop boy group in 2016. The 30-year-old has been an active participant in the South Korean music industry since then.
He has contributed both as a member of NCT and a soloist through OST releases for K-dramas like Twenty-Five Twenty-One, Love To Hate You, etc. On the other hand, in light of the recent allegations of his sexual crime, several netizens and fans have been shocked. Many criticized the idol for his actions and expressed their disappointment on social media.
Moreover, following the news landed on the internet, both the official accounts of NCT and NCT 127 have unfollowed the idol's personal Instagram account. The idol, however, is yet to personally comment or talk about these recent allegations.
