The post explained that the title track would be the remake of Avril Lavigne's hit track Girlfriend, remade in POW's unique style. The band captioned their X post:
"Avril Lavigne's hit song 'Girlfriend' gets a fresh remake with POW's unique style. Alongside Avril Lavigne and the original writers, POW teamed up with Grammy-winning hitmakers to shape the new wave of teen pop of 2024. This 2024, get ready to enjoy the cheeky love confessions from the five boys."
Subsequently, the news about the band's title track, Boyfriend, being a remake of Avril Lavigne's hit track, Girlfriend, circulated on social media and went viral. An X user reacted:

Other fans flaunted the band's productive management and producing team, having worked with Avril Lavigne herself for their upcoming title track, Boyfriend.

The South Korean boy band POW was formed by Grid Entertainment in 2023 and features five members - Hyunbin, Yourch, Jungbin, Dongyeon, and Hong. The band had a pre-release on September 12, 2023, with the music video for Favorite. They went on to make their official broadcast debut through the music program M Countdown on September 14.
