On Thursday, August 22, it was reported that several South Korean media reporters were gathered for BTS' SUGA at the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul. Earlier on that day, a rumor reportedly spread amongst the reporters that the idol would be appearing at the police station for investigations regarding his recent DUI incident.
However, previous inquiries confirmed that the idol will not be appearing for a photo line, where celebrities are usually expected to stand in front of reporters to pose and answer their questions. This was because the police decided to treat SUGA's case similarly to other suspects. Regardless, hundreds of South Korean media reporters gathered at Yongsan Police Station.
The reporters gathered at Yongsan Police Station because SUGA would likely have to pass them to enter, as the station has no underground parking and a narrow entrance.
However, the word soon spread that the idol would not be appearing for the police investigation that day. The news naturally set a chaotic tone between the gathered reporters. While some reporters stormed off from the venue, many others continued to wait for the idol in hopes that the news was just to ward off the reporters.
All you need to know about BTS' SUGA's DUI incident
On August 6, BTS' SUGA was revealed to have been charged with DUI, otherwise known as driving under the influence. Following this report, the idol himself released a statement on Weverse, explaining the situation. He stated that he left his studio after having drinks with his friends. Since an electric scooter was the nearest form of transportation, he chose to ride the same to get home.
He also thought that it wouldn't be an issue as his house was approximately 500 meters away and he rode the electric scooter on the sidewalk. While no one was hurt by the incident, the idol fell off the scooter while making a left turn in front of his house. When a group of patrol police saw the idol fall, they approached him.
They took a breathalyzer test and when the test came out positive, he was charged with a fine and his license was revoked. However, these were only the initial stages of the case. Both SUGA and his agency misunderstood that there wasn't more to the case and it was concluded with a fine and a license revocation.
Therefore, the South Korean police revealed that there will be further investigations regarding SUGA's DUI case. He will be summoned to the police station for investigations. However, it was also announced that the investigations will take place privately and the idol will be skipping the photo line.
Regardless, several leaks and rumors regarding SUGA's appearance at the Yongsan Police Station have been floating around the internet. As of yet, no official announcement regarding the commencement of police investigations into the idol has been made. On the other hand, it was also announced that this case would not be interfering with or affecting the idol's ongoing military service.
