BIGBANG's G-Dragon returned to the music scene after 7 years with his latest solo music video, POWER, dropped on October 31, 2024. As per X user Kpop Charts, the song reportedly earned the biggest streaming week by a K-pop male soloist in YouTube Music Korea history with over 12.2 million plays.
It surpassed BTS' Jungkook's 2023 hit single, SEVEN (feat. Latto), which had amassed over 9.77 million streams on the music streaming platform YouTube Music Korea. Furthermore, within 24 hours after its release, the song had over 800K streams on Spotify.
Additionally, POWER gained over 500,000 unique listeners on its first day on South Korea's MelOn streaming service. It was the biggest opening by a K-pop artist in 2024 on the Korean streaming platform. The song gained 22 million views on YouTube within 11 days of its release.
The song also achieved its second-highest entry on the Worldwide iTunes Song Chart and the European iTunes Song chart landing at No. 6 and No. 13, respectively.
His fans were stoked over the South Korean veteran artist's latest feat. One fan stated that despite debuting almost 20 years ago, the BIGBANG member has been "breaking records like it’s nothing." The fan wrote on X:
"Nah man its crazy cuz gdragon really just dropped 'Power' with zero promo, barely any notice, and he’s still breaking records like it’s nothing. 20 years in the game, and he’s still the king."
Fans hailed him as the "king of K-pop" and cheered for the BANG BANG BANG rapper.
