On July 22, 2024, reports revealed that Ryan Reynolds' initial plan was to feature Stray Kids in his upcoming film Deadpool & Wolverine. Later, Marvel Entertainment released the tracklist of Deadpool and Wolverine soundtracks on July 17, 2024, confirming the octet's song, Slash. Meanwhile, in a global press conference, Ryan Reynolds mentioned how the timing never worked in favor of both parties and said:
"The initial plan was to have them appear in the film, but it was just the strike happening in the middle and some other issues, and just making it logistically impossible. And I just will never forget the look on our line producer's face when I said that there are eight of them."
Fans were overjoyed to hear the news, however, the lost opportunity saddened them a bit. One Stray Kids fan wrote on X,
Similar opinions were expressed by others, who attempted to reassure one another that, if not a cameo, the K-pop group would be featured in one of the movie's 18 soundtracks.
"Oh noo...at least we have Deadpool & Wolverine cameo in Chk Chk Boom MV," one fan wrote.
"Come on man you would’ve been so cool appeared. At least we get to have song in the movie," another fan added.
"I feel like the cameo would be them filming their mv in the background while deadpool is fighting the tva or just doing some random stuff omg that would've been so cool!" another fan said.
Others speculated that Deadpool & Wolverine might have a reference or give a nod to the K-pop band.
"Doesn't matter, I'm still gonna watch the movie just to listen to their new song," one fan said.
"I'd like to believe that instead there will be a nod or reference of them in the movie tho (Besides the song of course)" another fan commented.
"I'm devastated lol it would've been a dream for Skz I'm sure," one fan wrote.
