Stray Kids' music drama 'SKZFLIX' takes home an award at Asia's largest international short film festival

Stray Kids music drama SKZFLIX bagged the Global Spotlight Award at Asia's largest international short film festival, Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2024, held on June 4 at Shibuya, Japan. The event was certified by the American Academy Award.

SKZFLIX was released on November 3, 2023, and chronicled the return of the film club On Track Storyline began in 2020. The music drama is connected to the release of Stray Kids' eighth mini-album, Rock-Star, which features its track Leave.

In the play, the eight members went through multiple trials and tribulations as the film club participants. The drama shed light on the moments of youth and the group's ability to showcase a variety of emotions.


Stray Kids' expressed their gratitude after getting honored with the prestigious award

Stray Kids did not attend the Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2024 in Japan. However, they delivered an acceptance speech through a video, where the members expressed their gratitude for getting honored with the Global Spotlight Award for self-produced content. They stated that it was meaningful to receive the award.

"Thank you so much for this wonderful 'Global Spotlight Award.' At the globally renowned SSFF & ASIA, we are very happy that you can enjoy our film SKZFLIX. It is such an honor for us to receive this award in a different art field which is not music. We'd continue showing lots of good music and art! We had a lot of fun filming SKZFLIX with the members. Everyone worked hard to act."

They further elaborated and said:

"Everyone was great at it! Yes! It was very fun and memorable. It was very fun acting and spending time with other members. It's very meaningful to receive an award for it. We hope to share the story of SKZFLIX with more people. We'd love to share our world of Stray Kids with this film. We'd continue delivering lots of music and videos. So please keep supporting us!"

Meanwhile, the director Kim Byeong-jun, who helmed the group's music drama, delivered a few words regarding the latest milestone achieved by the eight members. He stated, as translated by The Korea Herald:

"The project originated from an idea by students to work together to create a short film and win an award for it. The imagination had come to life. Despite being a work for fans, the project was able to shine more brightly thanks to the interest in Stray Kids and K-pop. Thank You."

Soon, the news about Stray Kids' recent win went viral on social media, where fandom STAYS shared multiple snippets congratulating the group. They expressed their pride in the band's latest achievement and stated they were recognized on an international stage. Many also stated that the members deserved it.

The international short film festival, Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia, began in 1999 and held its award ceremony in Japan. Overall, 4,963 entries were submitted from across 144 locations globally, and only 270 projects were awarded based on 2024's theme Illuminate Your Life.


More about Stray Kids

Stray Kids features eight members, including leader Bang Chan, Felix, Seungmin, I.N, Hyunjin, Lee Know, Changbin, and Han. They are under the JYP Entertainment and debuted on March 25, 2018. The group was formed out of the survival program of the same name, and the band is also associated with Republic Records.

In recent news, the group released their collaborative single Lose My Breath with the American singer and songwriter Charlie Puth on May 10, 2024. The track also ranked 90 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. It is the group's second track to chart on the Hot 100, after LALALALA, the single from their eighth Korean extended play Rock-Star, debuted at the No.90 rankings under the said charts.

The group also created history as they emerged as the first K-pop band to grace the red carpet of the Met Gala on May 6, 2024, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Costume Institute, Fifth Avenue, Manhattan, New York City. They were dressed in outfits designed by Tommy Hilfiger.

The group also delivered electrifying performances at Good Morning America on their track Lose My Breath and at the biggest event on YouTube, Brandcast, on May 16, 2024, held at David Geffen Hall, Lincoln Center, New York City.


Stray Kids are also set to make their much-anticipated comeback with an album on July 19, 2024, and all the band members are reported to participate in the upcoming project. The eight-member group will also headline international music festivals, including I-Days Milano on July 12, 2024, BST Hyde Park, London, on July 14, 2024, and Lollapalooza, Chicago on August 2, 2024, respectively.
