Netflix has promised a third season of Sweet Home, now scheduled to premiere on July 19, 2024, on the platform. The final season of the series is set in a post-apocalyptic world filled with humans who have turned into monsters and will continue from where season 2 stopped.
With a strong cast consisting of Song Kang, Lee Jin-wook, Lee Si-young, Park Gyu-young, and many more, Sweet Home had three Baeksang Art nominations. While season 1 deals with the happenings inside the apartment complex and Hyun-su's transformation into a monster, season 2 shows the residents venture outside as the military tries desperately to save humans.
Sweet Home season 2 recap and ending explained
In Sweet Home season 2, after Cha Hyun-su (Song Kang) was abducted by a newly possessed Pyeon Sang-wook (Lee Jin-wook) en route to the military compound for experimentation, the surviving residents of the Green Home apartments split off.
They are taken to a safe location for the refugees, but as it turns out, the military is almost too careful. They would not hesitate to shoot down refugees when faced with the presence of a monster. Ui-myeong, who is controlling the body of Sang-wook, convinces Hyun-su to help him save the ones being experimented on.
Meanwhile, with the help of Dr. Lim, now captured by the military, Yi-kyung sees the dissected body of her husband and suddenly goes into labor. It is also revealed that the Korean government wants a vaccine to help only the powerful, and the refugees are attacked. Ui-myeong and Hyun-su engage in a brawl, and the latter is easily overpowered.
Elsewhere, Yi-kyung lies on the ice after escaping the attack and delivers a baby, later revealed to have been born a monster. Sergeant Tak and Cheif Ji take over after the military and kill the government officials.
Eun-yu gets attacked by Chief Ji's husband, who has turned into a monster; however, she is saved by something she does not recognize. Believing it was her brother who saved her, she starts going out alone in search of him despite survivors being forbidden to go out on supply searches. The two men Chief Ji sends after Eun-yu end up getting turned into monsters upon the touch of a strange girl.
The strange girl is none other than Yi-kyung's daughter. Sharing a troubled relationship where she feels her mother does not understand that monsters are her friends, Yi-kyung's daughter escapes after setting herself on fire while on a ship. Sergeant Tak discovers that he himself will soon turn into a monster, but Dr. Lim promises to help him, provided he fetches something for him.
Yi-kyung's daughter is now angry, and upon another encounter with Eun-yu, she pushes her into a deep trench. Hyun-su saves her as she falls. Hyun-su had been helping Yi-kyung and her daughter, becoming a bridge between them. Yi-kyung faints due to the fire as a baby monster tries to save her. Hyun-su manages to save them both. As the military prepares to search for a comrade, Sergeant Tak lets Dr. Lim accompany them to find what he is looking for.
As Hyun-su and Eun-yu, along with the group, manage to find an abandoned hospital, they realize Yi-kyung will not be able to make it. As a final gift to her mother, Yi-kyung's daughter turns her into a monster, who Hyun-su has to kill later. With the help of a girl, the military group finds their comrade, but the girl transforms into a monster. Everyone there had been an experiment.
As Eun-yu decides to stay with Hyun-su, she realizes that something has changed in him. The cocoon bursts, and Eun-hyeok comes out as a monster that even the rest of the monsters are afraid of. With that, Sweet Home season 2 ends.
Sweet Home season 3 trailer releases
In the Sweet Home season 3 trailer, viewers see an attempt towards a solution where monsters and humans can live harmoniously. Some even decide that the formation of neo-humans through the infusion of monster powers is the solution.
Hyun-su is seen promising to set things right again, while a smile on Ui-myeong's face signifies that the mission would not be easy in Sweet Home season 3.
Stay tuned as Sweet Home season 3 will premiere on July 19, 2024, on Netflix.
