BTS' Min Yoongi aka Suga made headlines as he owned 50% of a Billboard chart. On September 10, 2024, Forbes reported that the Haegeum rapper-songwriter dominated the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart as his fan base has been consuming his songs.

This significant occurrence was due to the BTS ARMY consistently streaming Suga's music after the artist was wrongfully targeted by the Korean media, allegedly defamed with falsified press reports, and scrutiny over drunk driving a foldable electric scooter, below the speed of 30 km/hr.

ARMY showed their support for the idol since Korean media outlets like JTBC reportedly aired falsified CCTV footage, blaming Suga for recklessly speed-driving a motorized scooter. However, after Dong-A-Ilbo aired the real footage that showed Suga riding a foldable electric kickboard/scooter near his house, JTBC was forced to apologize to him on national TV.

Meanwhile, Forbes reported that that type of performance on the Billboard chart is unusual, particularly for an artist who hasn't released a new EP or album since May 2023. Despite his ongoing military enlistment, Suga's old cuts (songs) like The Last, Agust D, and Never Mind, topped the iTunes chart and also dominated on Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart.

Fans celebrated online as their voice and silent support towards BTS' Min Yoongi was noticed by international media. One fan wrote on X,

"DAMN THAT'S POWERFUL"

To let Yoongi know that his fans loved and supported him, ARMY trended several phrases and hashtags like "CONGRATULATIONS AGUST D," "CONGRATULATIONS SUGA," "WE LOVE YOU YOONGI," #BesideSUGA, and #SUGA #AgustD globally on X.

ARMYs underscored the alleged silence of Korean media when the BTS rapper has been dominating a massive Billboard chart with several of his songs.

"During a smear campaign as well. Yoongi you will always be so loved even if it’s not by your own country the rest of us love you more than anything," one ARMY wrote.
"Foreign media are reporting this because this is unprecedented phenomenon and it shows how great an artist Suga is and how powerful his fandom is. Kmedia instead of feeling proud that this come from homeground and missed the golden opportunity to report it first hand," another ARMY said.
"People don’t get how big of a deal this is and kmedia’s radio silence on covering it is actually hilarious," another fan noted.

Several fans also highlighted that amidst the alleged smear campaign against Yoongi, this win is a testament to his musical prowess and that ARMYs will love him.

"It's the power of LOVE. It's also the hard work and dedication he puts on his work. It's another mean of sending LOVE and CARING to OUR BELOVED SUGA," one other ARMY underscored.
"So proud of you, yoongi! This could'nt have come at a better time. Thank you, army, for loving and supporting our lotus flower," another ARMY added.
"Army don't use hate to answer the haters of BTS. We just use our power, through buying and streaming BTS music. So many fans can keep BTS in the music charts, proving BTS members are the world's biggest and best," another fan commented.

BTS' Suga's DUI case gets wrapped up with a fine

On September 11, 2024, Newsis reported that Seoul’s Western District Court sentenced BTS’ Yoongi to a fine of 15 million KRW (about $11,200) for drunk driving a foldable electric kickboard/scooter. The Last rapper-songwriter was fined since the court determined the crime to be a minor offense and a small infraction.

For the unversed, on August 7, 2024, the BTS rapper was accused of drunk driving. According to the police reports, his blood alcohol concentration (BAC) level was around 0.08%, as reported by MBC Entertainment News. Later, due to JTBC's false reporting, the rapper faced severe public backlash and media scrutiny. On August 15, Dong-A Ilbo released the original footage and debunked JTBC's claims.

Following this, ARMYs lashed out at Korean media outlets including JTBC, SBS, Koreaboo, TV Chosun, and more, for falsified reporting and demanded them to apologize to the idol for allegedly defaming him. JTBC apologized on August 16 and was later subjected to investigation by the Korea Communications Standards Commission (KCC) for falsified reporting.

Currently, BTS' Min Yoongi is serving in the military as a social service worker and will be discharged in June 2025 after completing 21 months of mandatory service.
