NewJeans’ unexpected decision to independently appear on CBS's Kim Hyun Jung’s News Show has sparked a strong response from their agency, ADOR. South Korean media outlet, News1 reported that the company had no prior knowledge of the group’s participation in the program.
ADOR stated that the arrangement was made solely by the members without consulting or informing the agency. As per News1, the agency stated,
"The members made the decision independently and ADOR was not aware of this in advance. It was decided and carried out independently by the artist without discussion with the company and the company did not know about the appearance in advance."
For those unaware, the CBS announcement, made during the closing segment of the show, revealed that the members—Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein would perform in a Christmas mini-concert. Host Kim Hyun Jung introduced the group members individually by name rather than as "NewJeans," which caught the audience's attention.
More about NewJeans and ADOR's ongoing contract dispute
The appearance of NewJeans on the show will mark the group’s first domestic broadcast since their emergency press conference in November. For those who don't know, the five members of the group announced their decision to terminate their exclusive contract with ADOR.
The group’s November declaration cited unresolved issues with ADOR and HYBE as the reason for their contract termination, effective as of midnight on November 29. As reported by Herald POP on the same day, during the press conference, the group stated,
"New Jeans has already greatly lost trust in ADOR, so if all violations are not corrected within 14 days of receiving this letter, there is no way to restore that lost trust. We inform you that we have no choice but to terminate your exclusive contract."
Since then, the group has operated independently, including creating new social media accounts and participating in projects under their names. Despite this, ADOR filed a lawsuit on December 3, 2024, to confirm the validity of their contract, insisting that it remains in effect and cannot be dissolved based solely on the group's decision.
ADOR also expressed concerns about the group’s independent activities, emphasizing the potential for legal complications. They urged the members to continue using official communication channels to avoid misunderstandings and reiterated their commitment to resolving the situation. Regarding the members' new Instagram account, @jeanzforfree, ADOR stated,
"NewJeans has a platform created to communicate with fans and official SNS accounts such as Instagram and X, and we expect them to communicate with fans through these official channels as before. All accounts other than official SNS accounts opened by ADOR were opened without prior consultation due to the exclusive contract."
This latest development highlights the growing tension between NewJeans and ADOR as the group continues to navigate its path outside agency oversight.
