On October 11, 2024, BTS' eldest member, Jin, surprised fans with the release of an extended version of his humorous song Super Tuna. The music video, filled with quirky edits and a lighthearted, playful concept, had fans laughing at the amusing creativity behind the production.

However, this release also sparked a comparison among ARMYs, the group's loyal fanbase, who noted the stark differences in the solo music videos released by each of the group’s seven members before they enlisted in the military.

Fans couldn't help but compare the solo works of BTS' younger members, referred to as the "maknae line" in Korean, which includes Jimin, V, and Jungkook. Their releases were contrasted with those of the older members, known as the "hyung line," consisting of Suga, Jin, and J-hope. Despite RM being older than the maknae line, fans humorously grouped him with the younger members because he was younger than J-hope.

Fans took to social media to share their thoughts, laughing at the distinct differences in the artistic styles and themes between the group’s younger and older members. A user on X, @adorablepjmn wrote,

"the differences hits another level."

One fan noted the stark difference in themes between the two groups:

"The hyungs singing/rapping about fish, domination and trauma. The maknae line trying to serenade a girl or wanting to be loved. Namjoon being in between (wanting to be loved while letting out his worries). Omg…," a fan commented.
"Hyungs in their celestic lover bois era," an X user wrote.
"Peak maknae behavior," another fan remarked.

Fans also expressed their delight at seeing RM grouped with the maknae line, a rare sight due to his usual role as the group’s leader.

"Finally Namjoon is rightfully on maknae line," an X user remarked.
"are you an arsonist daughter, a fck capitalism son or proposing a tuna child?," a fan wrote on X.
"the youngests are always more freaky than the oldests," an X user mentioned.

More about the differences in the music videos of the BTS members

The comparisons pointed out how the younger members of BTS often opt for more mature, romantic, and occasionally sensual themes in their music videos, frequently featuring love stories, breakups, and intimate moments with female leads.

In contrast, BTS' older members’ videos feature more comedic and imaginative concepts. For example, while Jin whimsically proposes to a tuna fish with fishing bait in Super Tuna, J-hope in My Universe displayed an unusual romance with aliens, showcasing their playful approach to different projects.

In RM’s music video for Come Back to Me, the BTS leader was seen spending tender moments with his partner, child, and another woman, adding a more personal and mature touch. Similarly, Jimin brought intensity with a fiery dance performance in his latest track Who.

V, known for his charming style, had sweet moments with a female lead in his single FRI(END)S, where he contrasted playful romance with couples quarreling around him. In IU’s Love Wins All, where V was featured, the singer was involved in a heartwarming wedding scene. On the other hand, BTS' youngest member, Jungkook, attracted significant attention with the release of his explicit hit Seven. The lyrics read,

"Every hour, every minute, every second, You know night aftеr night, I'll be f*ckin' you right, Seven days a week."

In contrast, the older members took a different route. BTS rapper J-hope’s solo work, such as Arson and More, had apocalyptic themes, where he spoke of burning down the world. Suga’s solo release, Haeguem, deeply reflected societal issues, tackling topics like capitalism, trauma, and depression.

Meanwhile, Jin kept things lighthearted with fun, quirky concepts, particularly in his viral Super Tuna music video.

As the BTS' eldest member prepares to release his solo debut album, fans eagerly speculate about the theme he will embrace next.
