On Friday, December 6, ENHYPEN's Heeseung participated in the Dunkin' Donuts fan meeting that took place with his fellow members in the Philippines. At one point, when Heeseung was giving his speech at the fan meeting, the crowd began to roll out a fan project. They started to sing the Happy Birthday song in unison for the members Niki and Sunghoon.
This is because Niki and Sunghoon's birthdays fall on December 9 and December 8, respectively. While many netizens realized that the intentions of the fans were good as they were simply trying to roll out a fan project for the two ENHYPEN members, people also expressed that it was insensitive and disrespectful towards Heeseung as he was giving his speech.
Many criticized the crowd at the recent Dunkin' Donuts fan meeting in the Philippines.
"the disrespect is crazy… hs was talking."
"I know this had good intentions and I'm all for celebrating, but not only was this a little awkward it’s also quite rude, it would’ve been so cute if y’all had just timed this better," said a fan.
"Heeseung you really don't deserve that kind of treatment," added a netizen.
"it was really a matter of timing! I really don't think engenes wanted to disrespect hee but it could've been timed better," commented a netizen.
More fans and netizens talked about how, while they understood that the issue was the lack of planning and wrong timing, they also expressed that it might've upset the idol.
"i hate yall sm he didn’t deserve this," stated a fan.
"also i really don’t like the tone some of you are taking… “we didn’t mean it” ok but that doesn’t make it any less rude lol!!!" commented an X user.
"this was very nice of them to sing happy birthday but the timing was off and rude," added another fan.
"He looked visibly upset too," stated another user.
